Whatever the result of tomorrows match, you can bet due to the AFL Grand Final Replay next week will be taken a bigger back seat than normal. How much effort will be made to promote the match in light of this?

It does raise a question though, how does the WAFL get 20-25,000 for their Grand Final, when it concludes on AFL Preliminary Final week? I suppose it's not the Grand Final to compete with, but perhaps Barto, westcoastfalcon might be able to say what promotion the WAFL Grand Final gets competing with the AFL matches?

While I'm one from the Grand Final draws = replay school (because no premier should be decided in 10 minutes), this is the worst possible outcome for the SANFL. I fear for the coverage of the SANFL GF this week, but I throw out the challenge to every SANFL supporter out there to sell the SANFL GF to as many people as you can get to listen. We may need to resort to tactics like viral advertising, but if we all do our part we can still get a decent crowd at AAMI next Sunday.

What will it do to the Grand Final parade in Rundle Mall next Saturday though - that will take a bit of a battering. Maybe have it Friday night?

Having said that, what an action packed weekend we have for footy fans - AFL GF replay Saturday, Slowdown Saturday night and SANFL GF next Sunday!

Know where you're coming from, but I think you're being slightly too pessimistic there.

Both clubs in the WAFL Grand Final had gone a long time without a flag...Claremont's last one was 1996 when the won by 2 points, and Swan Districts had to go back to 1990. Claremont had been the better side all year, only losing 2 games, and the Swans supporters turned up and made a lot more noise than if it had been a Claremont Subiaco GF. Also helped the weather was perfect, and made even better by Swans 1 point win and a stunning performance by Andrew Krakouer that have some people saying it was the best performance by 1 player in history of the WAFL.
The game was played on Sunday as well, and with no WA AFL teams to hog the newspaper space, it got some decent coverage. Still would have preferred to see the game played on Saturday afternoon though.

There is enough to promote this Grand Final too, nowerman. When you consider Norwood have not won one for 13 years, and match up well against Central. I feel that the 2nd Semi final will be good experience for next week, should they get through. I think for other clubs players playing Central in a final, you don't really know what you are up against pressure wise until the game starts. Although Tim Weatherald would have known, of course.

But on the other hand, 6 Eagles players already know what to expect (and what it takes to win) next week - Justin Cicolella, Adam Grocke, Luke Jarrad, Mark McKenzie, Luke Powell and Dale Symmons - as they were part of the 2006 premiership side. The Eagles match up well too, and also are the modern day rivals of Central District. The other promoting factor is the possibility of only the second side to win 5th place, and third from the Elimination Final, should the gold, green and blue get up tomorrow.

How come they can play the slowdown at adelaide oval but not sanfl finals, and why is this game on the night before the grand final even with the gold coin donation after you take out buying food and drinks many are not going to go to both events because of money reasons.

I agree with whufc... will be tough to get more than 20,000 fans next week. The draw is just fantastic for the AFL, there's going to be unprecedented coverage and interest in the two teams and the lead up to matchday. Its going to be tough to demand much attention from the media when that is going on, AFL fans and the public just won't be interested.

There's a similar game they do here in the west: West Coast Owls v Freo Old Salts. Just heard on the radio that it's been moved to the following week as it was meant to be played next Sat evening, but at least they have the decency to schedule it a couple of weeks after the WAFL GF.

Would have been 2002 until all the Sturt bandwagoners arrived at halftime knowing that they then actually had a chance to win it. (Only kidding although I do know a few suppporters who did that)

My gut feeling is that the AwFuL Grand Final replay will have an impact on the promotion for next week's real Grand Final, the only one that counts. However, can we turn it to our advantage? A number of people turn off of football after the AFL GF. This may keep their interest for one more week. Can we kindle their enthusiasm for the novel event of having two Grand Finals in two days?

I actually think it may be beneficial as it is typically a stand alone last game of the year match and many people have already moved on from footy season.

Perhaps the SANFL could market it as a "Could it be another draw" game?
