2010 Magarey Medal

My apologies if this conflicts with any other threads for the count - I couldn't see one - but thought it may be worth starting one, for tips, pre-count discussion etc. Only 24 hours until the count and should be a great night.

For what it's worth, I tipped a top 5 in Sportsbeat

1. Brett Zorzi (Nwd) - Interesting to see how the umpires view his move back to his original midfield role. Coming over in 2005 from the Northern Bullants as a centreman, has averaged 23 disposals a match and has spent much of this under the umpire's eye.

2. Jonathan Giles (Sturt) - Would be the first full time ruckman since 1951 to win it, but Giles has been pivotal to Sturt's season and some games will be very hard to ignore. Averaging 14 disposals, four marks, 30 hitouts and a goal per game, could prove a real surprise on the night.

3. James Allan (NA) - Will have a fair idea by round 15 as to his chances, with his final three matches of the season quite possibly B.O.G's. Won't lose votes to too many teammates along the way and with nearly 30 touches a match, can't go unnoticed.

4. Ian Callinan (CD) - 34 goals in the season for the Bulldog in a stellar season, but worth noting he polled only 12 votes in 2007 and 2009. Would have some games with clear votes, but uncertain if this has been a markedly better season in the umpires eyes.

5. Nick Lower (NWD) - His run and carry has been a feature of Norwood's season, being a full time member of their squad after his delisting by Port. Has racked up some big numbers in their wins and sure to be prominent throughout.

Lewis to top OUR votes.

Norwood or Bay player to win it

well with the flood of money for james allan last week leading to some corporate bookies suspending betting for fear of a leak as 'seemed' to happen last year, if correct well then he's the winner, i think ck is a bit harsh on not having ty allen in his top 5 as i'm sure he'll run in the top 5 as he is a proven vote getter, i also think nick lower is a great chance to be in the finish, i think there isn't much doubt wingnut will be in front at the half way mark but not sure whether he can hang on over the concluding rounds

If Allan wins it'll be a win for the bloke who gets heaps of cheap touches and not the bloke who does the damage out on the ground. A bit like Ryan O'Connor when he won.

I really hope that the winner (if not a dogs player) is Lower, Giles, Zorzi or Allen. Those blokes are the sort I worry about getting the ball at all, not someone I'm happy to see get it.

Come on Scotty Lewis! On him at 30's.
Hopefully those reserves umpires who got him the Reserves Magarey a few years ago, are now league umpires

I did list him as my best roughie on Sportsbeat, Bayman :)

Last year everyone thought that Allan was going to poll 9 votes in the last 3 matches. When he was leading with 3 rounds to go everyone thought he was home. He only got 2 votes in total from those 3 matches and Archard got 9 votes. Incidentally in the NAFC best and fairest last year, Allan got b.o.g. in the last 3 matches.

I guarantee that Allan won't poll 3 votes in the North win at Noarlunga early in the year. I believe that George Thring played very, very, very well that day.

I would love zorzi to win it, but am afraid there are a few norwood guys who will steal points off each other. Think it may be from out of the top 3 sides

Hopefully Liddle can poll 12+ votes. Lower from NWD would be my tip.

Congratulations to young Terry Milera from the Port Magpies for winning the Reserves Magarey Medal, he had a great year...

Also, FWIW, I think the winner will come from one of my predicted top 5:

In no particular order:

Ty Allen (Glenelg)
Ian Callinan (Central)
Nick Lower (Norwood)
James Allan (North)
Brett Zorzi (Norwood)

Smokey - Jon Giles (Sturt)

I reckon Allan will win it for reasons mentioned .. Weight of possession and lack of vote sharing at the Roosters.

For my boys, Lower and Zorb have had fantastic seasons, I guess it's just a bit of an unknown as to how well received they would be by the umpires, I think Nick could be a real chance because he plays tall and small and could find a few votes in losing games.

Simon Phillips could well be the one to rob them both of votes.

Reckon I have the winner covered in my stable of bets, but Ty Allan would be the real nice collect.

Would love to see Nick Lower win it but Zorba and Flip might take some votes off him.

Allan will be hard to beat mainly because of a lack of competition from his team mates and I believe Lower will finish ahead of Zorzi therefore ruling him out.

My only doubts surrounding Callinan are his finish to the year - the Dogs lost a few games and I thought he was more dominant earlier in the season.

Giles will NOT run in the top 10 ;) ;)

If teammates pinching votes is a big issue, Nick Liddle would be a pretty good chance wouldn't he?

Allan to win by 10 votes from Kane Tenace.

Lower and McGlone equal 3rd.

I know who I'd rather in 'my" team out of Allan and Callinan. However, as mentioned I think Allan has less taking votes off him.
