Westies did what they needed to do today to comfortably defeat a pretty ordinary South Adelaide. Interestingly enough both teams got the same amount of the ball but Westies finished better in front of goal: we had 22 scoring shots to South’s 18 but won by 39pts.
18yo Bradley Helbig played his first game. Webb and Scott Harding played in the seconds and Davenport and Pettigrew stayed with the Power.
The first Q was a pretty scrappy affair with Westies shading South at the first break 2.2 to 1.2. Westies asserted themselves in the second due to Daniel Caire and Nat Caruso imposing themselves on the game and taking the team with them. Ryan Bennett finished off with 3 goals this Q and at half time we lead 6.4 to 1.5.
South fought back in the 3rd to add 3 but Westies matched them and at 3Q time we were still well clear and playing smarter and more economical (rather than efficient) footy: WA 9.9 to SA 4.7.
The last was pretty scrappy as evidenced by South adding 1.6 but we kicked 3.1 to run out comfortable winners: 12.10 to 5.13. A fabulous Morris tackle, a terrific Ferguson mark and an exhilarating running goal to Logan Hill were the highlights of this Q.
We went inside-50, 51 times to 36. We had 26 more marks (84 to 58). Centre breaks were quite even, 11 to 9. Best were Daniel Caire and Nat Caruso. Ferguson and Greg Rowe were pretty useful and Ryan Bennett booted 4. We lost Fisher and Munn with injury and played most of the game with a depleted bench robbing the team of any flexibility.
The 2s went down to the bottom team 15.8 to 14.8.

Looked OK from what I saw on the TV.

Poor performance from the home side. Effort was there, but any system, confidence and team work was shot to pieces a while back...
Hard to find too many better players. Perhaps Lyons and Turner.
Disappointing way for Dugga to end. Had a chance to kick the opening goal in the first minute but missed. Summed up his, and his team's day.
Bloods too good, but will want to sharpen up a little if they're to beat a Nwd or WWT in a final.
Crowd would have been 1200-1300. Average.

It was very very ordinary. Inconsistent and soft.
I doubt we'll get the chorus of bloods fans whining about the umps like we have the past few weeks though

They were well looked after.

Fort Caruso also sat out the 2nd half with a minor back injury.

Actually guaranteed before this round anyway, but academic nonetheless. Statistically it's interesting that if Port lose next week, they will have the same number of wins as last year, while South also have the same amount of wins as last year (Plus one draw).

How did Brad Helbig go in his debut game.

Westies did well mate.
The way South played behind all day I am wondering if we had 14 fit players who could keep up.

Tragic for SA Footy.
Where to now for South Adelaide?
What is the answer?
The gap between #1 and #9 is far too great.

Should we go to 8 clubs.

Yep agree. Lets get rid of Centrals. Might give someone else a chance.
