Player Retirements

Postby SANFLnut » Tue Aug 24, 2010 6:27 pm

Must be about the time for announcements of final games to start rolling in....

Apart from Hanby & Warren from South have there been any others made to date?

Who are the other players at your club tipped to pull the pin?

Believe it when I see it. They've been tipped to retire for the last 10 years.

Theres never been a bigger recruiting blunder than South not givivng them what they wanted which wasnt heaps from what i gather. Just another quality decision the club has made over the years

Dont think the South match up would have produced even a single premiership.
The Centrals match up was made in heaven ...right players ...right club at exactly the right time.

the question that comes to my mind is, would the twins have stayed with south for the whole decade as they have with central ?, sadly i think not, although the south team under pyman that made finals may've gone all the way with them in the team
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I would think Ben Nelson may give it away, hopefully Sheeds goes on, he is still playing great footy and shows great leadership, one of Sturts best captains in my time.

Hence the 'possible' in my post...

FWIW Jimmy, I agree with you on those 2 in particular, just put their names on the list because they are both 30 years of age and closer to retirement...

I think at North that Ackland, Ivens and White will all go around again.

At Elizabeth, will Switala play on ????

At Norwood, Timmy W would be a strong candidate but the other "possibles" can be marked down as "highly unlikelies" I think.

White is two years into his contract - depends on who you listen too but he will be at North after having an injury riddled 2 years so far plus speaking to his father last home game he isn't planning on going antwhere by all accounts!

Ivens has only just come back after one year off and had been our best defender by a mile this season and he should be one of the Captains along with Alleway and Allan moving into the next couple of years!

Gill - rumoured to be going back to Melb hence why he only signed a 1 year deal. Not sure what he will do to be honest and I'm not sure Emu does either - much like his form this year!

O'Hara - has been riddled with injuries this year so no surprise to see him go plus if Healy stays (God help us) he doesn't rate ruckman and believes a team only needs one so that may put Budgie behind the 8 ball in the pecking order?

Ackland - depends on if his contract gets "re-negotiated" but should play on?

Younie - rumoured to want to have another year? Needs to prove his fitness and form and should not be if he plays on an automatic pick however he has been a bloody good player over a long period so he deserves some breaks.

Looks like Hentschel is gone for next year too, but will play the year out at the Eagles.

May want to go home and play with his mates Mark Berts (former Melbourne rookie) and Luke Tyrell at Palmo.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I did a long time ago.
I am seriously concerned abouth their total inability to develop their junior zone - even with Ronnie there.
I am bewildered.
I still think that is where Port Magpies should relocate - at least they still know how to develop a zone.

haha I only just realised last week that Sibenaler was still playing - thought he'd retired at the start of the year. As for Stuart Bown, I thought he'd hung up the boots in 2005!

For the Eagles, I can see Cicolella retiring, not sure about Hentschel, but I reckon the others will stay at least another year.
