Everything else is being re-hashed over this so why not.

Booney, on my heart I honestly think that it would be immensely detrimental.

What the Port fans fail to see is that effectively the Magpies would then be owned in part by the SANFL. Do they want that?

Q: Is Port's position worse than Sturt's in 1995?

The sooner the Port team and the Crows team have a team in the SANFL the sooner all this mess will go away.
Play on......

would you feel that way if it was at souths expense ?
it couldn't happen anyway, the afl clubs don't have enough on their lists to accomodate 2 teams & it would get even worse if they are riddled with injury

Long term wouldn't it be better if the magpies fold, wouldn't it? For the AFL Port Adelaide that is.....In time the hatred towards the old port adelaide (magpies) would go and the power would gradually get more supporters, i don't see how merging the two together is going to help them get more supporters to games.

The sooner both sides have a side in the SANFL the sooner I'll be following only the A-League as it would mean the end of a competitive league as the two AFL sides will start dictating what goes on. Plus anyone who wants to play AFL will automatically want to go to these two fake sides. I want the Magpies in the league but not two AFL reserves teams, I just think they'll end up dominating.

Brisbane didn't have a reserve side when they won three in a row. West Coast I don't think did. Adelaide when they won back to back didn't nor Port. An expensive mistake. Players going back works okay (not brilliant, but okay). I agree with csbowes, if Nash, Westhoff, Dew were to play for Port magpies, I wouldn't go to the footy anymore. As someone else mentioned it would mean any Port supporters all of a sudden would start going to Magpies games.
serves no purpose other than to enable the Magpies to play with an unfair advantage.

i think its likely that on a purely commercial level, there may be some pressure on either the SANFL or the Port Power FC by people within the AFL to ensure that this outcome does actually occur, although likely not in the format that is presented on the current one Port Adelaide site.
Purely from a viewpoint of increasing the Port Powers financial position and increasing their numbers at games, it could be that some feel that by there being no Magpies side at all anymore that this could be the outcome for the Power.
What i feel most likely makes problems for the Magpies is the number of people that once barracked for the Maggies in the SANFL who now follow the Power in the AFL and repeat what was originally stated by the PAFC that there was to be no side in the SANFL and that Port Adelaide would move fully to the SANFL. Some people I have met that feel this way appear to resent the fact that the SANFL made them create a second side in the SANFL.
The old but true saying is "A house divided will not stand". I feel that what Tim is trying to do is to work on uniting the Power and Magpies members to a common goal and to work out some of these issues which is likely a good thing for the club. I cant see how it can ever be worked out though, yet just doing nothing will make sure that it doesn't happen at all, whereas trying to do something has to be a step in the right direction.

Sojourner, good post.
To the PAMFC, their supporters, Tim Ginever and George Fiacci(?). Never underestimate the power of Demitriou and the AFL in their ability to divide and conquer by means of backing one entities goals in order to incorporate their own agendas.
They want a full AFL reserves comp australia wide so don't think that by seeing "your two clubs" united that you'll be getting to see them play as one in the SANFL in the distant future. What you'll get is a bastardized version MKII of the Power, that will play all of the other reserves clubs of the AFL, now if you want that and are happy then just fold and accept that you have no allegiance to the SANFL. If however you genuinely want to back up and be a part of the SANFL then back it in to be the strongest independent comp in Australia.
Please don't sell yourselves out again and I plead to you all, don't sell out the SANFL again. We grew together, we've got a second chance to stand together, please don't prostitute yourselves to someone else's bigger agendas.

Thinking this through ...which would be a worse option
a) - An 8 team SANFL comp without the Port Magpies
or
b) - A 10 team SANFL comp with Crows & Power (Magpies) reserves sides.
Not real keen on either.
I can't wait for Rucci to get historial can share with readers how well this experiment of having every AFL player in one club worked in the WAFL 10 years ago. It worked soooo well it was dropped back to a similar system we have in SA.

That's right Phil, even a combined Power/ Crows reserves won't work. If that's the future and I'm sure it wil be in a separate AFL ressies comp then it can stand alone.
SANFL for itself by itself. We've been played off for fools too many times.

It will happen and i think the AFL will be a big player in making sure it does. It may even be linked in with Port getting full control of their license.
