The SANFL is pleased to announce Richard Allen will join the SA Football Commission as of November 1, filling the casual vacancy left by Brian Cunningham.
A member of the National Institute of Accountants and a Fellow of the Tax Institute of Australia, Richard is the director of his own public accounting and tax agency firm, Allen & Co.
Richard has been on the Board of the Sturt Football Club since 1999 and has served as Club President for the past six years. He has also served as the Club Treasurer since 1995.
More recently, he was a member of the committee that coordinated the relocation of Sturt’s gaming facilities from Oxford Tce to BarZaar and negotiated the underlease for the Castle Tavern.
Richard is also a two-time premiership player (1991-1992), a Past President and a Life Member of Scotch Old Collegians Football Club.
Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker today welcomed Richard’s appointment.
“Richard is an outstanding addition to the SA Football Commission, having years of sound administrative experience at both Amateur and League level to bring to the table,” Mr Whicker said.
“Richard has worked in accountancy for over 30 years and I am confident he will be able to contribute greatly to the Commission’s economic decision-making.”
Richard said he intended to join his fellow Commissioners in providing strong leadership for South Australian football.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed 15 years with my beloved Doubles Blues and I am looking forward to taking with me to the Commission the experience I have had in various roles at the club,” he said.
Brian Cunningham stepped down from the SA Football Commission in May due to increasing work commitments.
