Round 20 - Central Dist v Port @ Eliz 2.10pm Sat 14th Aug

Postby GWW » Sun Aug 08, 2010 11:24 pm

The Magpies have the hardest task in SANFL footy this week, and will be hoping to put up a good fight against the Bulldogs. Port have managed to stay with Centrals for 3 quarters at Elizabeth quite often over the last few years, and will be keen to be very competitive this week as well.

This could be a blowout, but i'll tip the Bulldogs by 7 goals.

This will be a big test for how much the magpies are satisfied with the year and are looking for 2011. If they want more and want to beat the dogs we might get a contest. If not, it could get ugly. Either way the dogs with more class and more to play for should win comfortably in the end.

Injuries are taking their toll on the Magpies.

Cloke was injured in the warmup (apparently) but still played against the Eagles. He was clearly not right, but full credit for playing out the match.

Mieklejohn surely has an injury. He was well below 100%.

Thurgood and Clayton in particular are being missed for a bit of experience when the game goes up a level in intensity.

I still think the Magpies will give a good account of themselves saturday, but will fall short when the Dogs make their charge.

I hope I'm wrong though!

dogs will have to be switched on in this one. last few games we concedded four or more consecutive goals which wouldnt be impressing lairdy.

interstingly we could have back spurr gunston switala schell while griffen has struggled at the crows the last couple so think we may get him back.

switala and schell may have to play reserves if they are ready to resume and cochrane will definatly need another game in the ressies.

The weather forecast is looking ordinary on Saturday - could this make Port's prospects better? With Central on an intense training campaign at present, a tough, wet slog with lots of stoppages could play right into the hands of Port. It's been a season of 'honourable losses' for them and the journey to the Ponderosa will no doubt have Tony Bamford issuing a big appeal to his charges to make a statement at the end of 2010 by getting a big result.

No doubt the Dogs have what it takes to despatch the Magpies, but the timing of the clash and the conditions may mean that the planets are aligning about as best they can for Port this week?

Possibly yes! I guess I'm just saying there is a better possibility of it happening this weekend with Central's training program, the weather, and the motivation for Port to get a big scalp before the end of the year of 'honourable losses'. ;)

Interesting to see Yves Sibenaler back for Dogs, will he be able to force his way back into the league side before finals?

Barmby and L. Westhoff are surprise inclusions. Good sign though that it's not just the players we were talking about returning from injury that are in with a chance of being selected.

Sutherland playing for Berri or is he hurt?

wouldnt think so his only playing one or two games when work allows him to get down here. main reason for him coming back is to visit his thunderbird girlfriend

Roy Laird wouldn't accommodate Evil for just a 'couple of games' while in town to visit his girlfriend whufc. Is there was no goal for him to add something to the league side should he be able to get back in, he would have gone and had a kick with South Gawler I'd suggest.

I think a win for the Filth is "possible" but not "probable".

Pretty happy with that side, providing Cloke and Meiklejohn are fit.
Good to see DePasquale and Thurgood back in.

A player with the talent of Weetra needs to give more. Casey Carr's impact has been a little down. Perhaps a young body needs a freshen up.

Unfortunately I'm not convinced we'll get a lot of run/ accountability from Krakouer but I'd love to be surprised.

And on surprised, after watching Cam Cloke hobble around with that groin strain last week, I thought he looked gone for the season? Good to see him get up.

I've been hugely impressed with big CC this year.
Can we keep him in 2011 if the Power delist him? (which I think they will) I hope he remains a Magpie.

Agreed!!

My understanding is he has enjoyed his time at the club(s), but they are a close knit family. Perhaps if we try and lure Jason Cloke here as well...?

He does enjoy playing at the Port Magpies, and i know he has bought a house here in Adelaide, so lets hope he would stay if he was delisted by the Power.
I reckon he will get another run with the Power before the seasons out.
