coach of the year...who'll 'win it' ! ??

imho i think only 2 men can 'win it', roy laird with his outstanding record & having central at the top of the ladder again.....or nathan bassett who has ressurrected norwood from whipping boys to a formidable force in such a very short time

i think given the fact that most thought central would be 'up there' & norwood out of the top 5 the coach of the year this far out would have to be nathan bassett without doubt

personally i think it should go to the premiership coach but seeing it is 'awarded' at the end of the minor round it surely must go to nathan bassett, shouldn't it ?

What about Andy Collins
2009 WA beat NW home by about half a game
This year NW lead WA by 1 game [and WA have a game in hand]
So what happens if WA beat NW home by minor round end in 2010 ?
Collins is the coach of the year ?

not in my book, reasoning is west doing pretty much as expected but norwood very much over most peoples expectations

Collins has built up a basket-case team.

Bassett took over the best list money could buy.*

Expectation is dangerous and unreliable.

Don't rate your argument on that basis, bayman.

Bassett's to lose at the moment, but the last quarter of the minor round might change a few things. Roy will always find it tough to win when the dogs keep doing the same thing. Personally I think he's been the coach of the year every year, but reality is the award is more akin to a "coach of the most improved team" award.

I think their are currently four coaches who can hold their heads very high.

1. Laird (CD) to have maintianed themselves as the leading club in the competition despite the horendous run of injuries they have had says a lot about his ability to develop a team.

2 - Bassett (N) has taken an uncompetative outfit into the form team of the competition, by no means are they playing pretty football and it comes down to every player doing what they have to when they have to.

3 - Godden (E) some would say he has had a lot to work with and I beg to differ. The eagles are about the most over rated list going around especially when he has had to give players like Heinjes a game (not picking on the lad but he is not a league player yet). His team gets knocked from pillar to post with AFL selections that make his job hard.

4 - Bamford (PA) yep they have struggled to win but he has taken on a club on its knees played kids every week and has got them playing at a level that they are now very competative. Basically haven't been belted all year with a team that is essentially a dominant reserves team.

My vote at this stage goes to BASSETT

Collins has built up a basket case team, you're right R&B, but he hasn't done it over night. 2009 saw some real improvement from the WAFC and to have not been either in the 5 or still with a shot of making finals at this stage in 2010 would have been dissapointing at very best.

Collins has, in 2010, delivered exactly what everyone expected. A much more competitive, albeit defensive unit, that is in the 5 and may well play finals. No real surprises there.

Bassett as a rookie first year coach has turned the team that in round 4 had no wins into the surprise packet of the competition in 2010. I'm not sure how you can compare the two coaching efforts?

My vote once again though goes to Roy Laird. The best team in the comp that continues on their merry way, how else could anyone else be "Coach of the Year" ?

Although Daniel Healy sure is making my life a little more enjoyable.

I agree, Booney.

I was only taking issue that Whatever excluded him from those coaches whose efforts could be applauded.

Yeah Collins has been Solid but Westies doesn't seem to have taken a massive step this year.

I would have had him on a short list last year though.

They've already won more games than last year, with 6 rounds still to go, so I think they've been more than solid.

but may not improve on their ladder position from last year.

Only 3 real contenders Bassett and whoever wins the minor premiership out of laird and mickan

Pretty sure Rubbers won't win it. I think Laird deserves it.

1st laird
2nd basset
how many times has laird actually won the honour?
clearly coach of the decade i would suggest his win loss ratio is the best of all coaches since the war can someone confirm this
