With the split round upon us, I thought I’d throw out a few questions to supporters of all clubs as it is probably a good time to take stock of where your respective teams are placed for either a push for the flag, a push for finals, or for building towards 2011.

If you were the coach of your side, what would you be thinking about where your club is situated at the moment (on field)?

What are the big issues ahead for the remaining games of the 2010 minor round?

For example:

What is your team doing well, and where does it further improvement on field?
Who is missing (injured/form) and who is out of form?
Who is a continuous improver this year, and who is on fire?
How are your new players going this year – juniors coming through to league ranks and new recruits?
How is your game style panning out? Is your team too unaccountable, prone to congestion, or do you otherwise need a new approach?
What’s your club’s biggest strength and weakness?
What else is a serious consideration for your club’s goals in 2010 or 2011?

Lastly, no coach wouldn't be worried about this question, but nonetheless, who is firming to win your club’s best and fairest, who’s firming as the leading goalkicking and who is your club’s best chance(s) for the Magarey Medal?

From my view;

What is your team doing well, and where does it further improvement on field?

We're winning and maintaining a top 3 spot. Winning a lot of games by playing a good quarter or two which can be improved on. Some of our game style leaves a bit to be desired too. Hopefully on the run into the finals that improves.

Who is missing (injured/form) and who is out of form?

No real major injuries for the A's except for Paul Adlington who has been a quiet achiever. Hopefully Addo gets his fitness back soon and can push back for a spot in the A's.

No real player out of form, more consistency issues.

Who is a continuous improver this year, and who is on fire?

Been pretty impressed by Andrew Bradley so far this season, a young kid who keeps getting better each week. Ty Allen is on fire for sure, been happy with Tenace's games to date too.
And always smile at Trev Cranstons efforts.

How are your new players going this year – juniors coming through to league ranks and new recruits?

Kane Tenace is our only real "name" recruit and he has been good. Chris Curran shows promise in the B's. Braddles has taken his chances in the A's as has Killer Kellock. Would love to see Shannon Snook get a run, and Daniel Scott Collings will be one to watch for the future as will be Trembath.

How is your game style panning out? Is your team too unaccountable, prone to congestion, or do you otherwise need a new approach?

Hard to read most weeks. When we're on our best is fantastic. When we're off we're woeful.
Hopefully the last quarter against Port, is a turnaround.

What’s your club’s biggest strength and weakness?

Biggest strength is player management re injuries. The Doc/Trainers/Staff down at the Bay manage player injuries well. Weakness is we haven't quite got the depth through the midfield as we had last year or before. Hopefully the Snooks, or DSC, can fill the void when required.

What else is a serious consideration for your club’s goals in 2010 or 2011?

2011. No thoughts. 2010, get the double chance then push for a GF (and a flag).

Lastly, no coach wouldn't be worried about this question, but nonetheless, who is firming to win your club’s best and fairest, who’s firming as the leading goalkicking and who is your club’s best chance(s) for the Magarey Medal?

Ty Allen for the B & F if it was held now. Kirkby or Grima for the leading goalkicker. Ty allen or Kane Tenace for the Magarey.

The perception seems to be that North supporters are deserting their team.

Is that right and if so, why? Especially when you compare it to the fans of many clubs who just keep turning up regardless of how their team is travelling.

The Eagles are managing to win, without being too impressive. Besides Geddes and Fitzgerald we have been reasonably lucky with injuries. Only Treeby has been a top line player that has missed a fair chunk of the season, besides Parry who had a late start to the season, but hasn't missed a beat since his return.

Lewis, Cicolella and Powell would be fighting it out for the best and fairest. Lewis has been a revelation and has headlined a successful recruiting campaign over the off season. Grocke has also been outstanding, although lost some momentum when he was out of action for a month due to suspension.

Geddes was our most improved until doing his knee a few weeks ago and Rowntree has had a fantastic first year playing with maturity beyond his years. Goldsworthy was also very good for most of the early part of the season, before falling away over the last month - we will need him back as along with James Stewart they both have great disposal by foot.

The biggest challenge is getting the team settled. Any of the following AFL players may be available for the remainder of the minor round (or finals); Salter (qualified), Broadbent (qualified), Banner (qualified), Burton (1 game), Knights (3 games), Hentschel (1 game) and Schulz (4 games) as well as Thompson, Jacky, Redden, Dawson etc.

The introduction in the last fortnight of our state under 18's into the league team has also thrown up some selection issues with likes of Goldsworthy, Stewart, Rimington, Biglands and Symmons currently playing reserves or out with short term injury.

The depth is good when AFL players are available, but getting the right mix and consistency is a challenge.

The game plan is producing some reasonable scores and when put into action properly is producing results. Only concern I have is the lack of players in the forward 50 on occasions due to pushing up the field (but this seems to be a trend for all teams these days), and some signs of undiscipline with the amount of free kicks given away last week and some basics (like manning the mark properly) lacking against Norwood.

Having got this far I'd say the Eagles would be disappointed if they didn't finish top 3 and have a crack at the GF by playing off in the Preliminary Final. Having said that, the top 6 is quite tight and we are still in danger of missing out completely.

I will be a member next year just like the last 26 .Our brand has no attraction at all to me at the moment so I choose to do other things.I don't go to the footy to catch up with anyone,drink, yell at umpires or to escape the wife.As a source of entertainment NAFC 2010 provides me no enjoyment so I enjoy my weekend on other things and catch score usually here at dinner time.I do not miss it in the slightest to be honest.I just am not one of those who has nothing else to do or totally lives for saturday arvo at the footy.I also think the standard of the SANFL has dropped 25% in the last year alone as clubs like yours and mine have tried to play an AFL style with B-Grade players.It has turned attending my clubs game into a yawnfest sadly...I will be back for a peek next year to see if things have changed.I hope they have.

Probably a fair call. Winning does mask the style of play you watch sometimes. Not sure the standard has dropped, but the style of play has altered in recent times.

The dogs are on track for a top 3 position.

The only team we haven't beaten is Sturt, last year's GF opponents. We play them again in the minor round. Wouldn't it be ironic if they beat us 3 times in the minor round and we beat them in the GF? :lol:

Unfortunately, I think it's a King Canute trying to stop the tide, to think that the style will change back to the 'good old days'.

I wasn't particularly referring to you, as it seems to be a common theme amongst North people ATM.

West's crowds are up over 70%, so perhaps winnin g is more important than game style if you haven't had much suceess lately.

History shows that 13 wins usually guarantees you a top 3 spot.

We need to win 3/6 games to get the double chance.
Our closest rivals for the top 3 have to win four out of five to "guarantee" a top three spot.

Pretty confident we'll get the double chance.

Then its on to building on our better than 50% win:loss average in finals.

Not everyone who goes each week has nothing better to do or is trying to escape something. Some of us actually enjoy supporting our club in good times and in bad. Do everyone a favour and take your money and better than thou attitude and >edited< off.

I go "week after week" ,"rain, hail or shine" and renew my membership year after year.....just wishing 1/8th of your success (if not more)....for what us Southies have gone through supporting our club and having never seen our side win a Grand Final since 1964 - I see this as a woeful and poor excuse!!!

I know every club makes mistakes but I love my club to much to ever "jump ship".....

It really frustrates me reading a post like that....be thankful for what you have and what you can achieve!!! Support your club through thick and thin!!!

loving where central are at currently. We have had lots of injuries but i guess that now becomes a blessing as we have been able to blood some younger guy which could be come invaluable come finals.

We should have a top 3 spot sewn up so are now in the middle of our tough training period in readiness for the finals.

I can see lots of improvement from the dogs by having our best players on the park more consistently. If havelberg can string together a few more games in a row we will become lots more dangerous and getting cochrane back in the next couple of weeks will sure up the defence alot.

If we get back our AFL guys would be a great bonus come finals. Would love to see havelberg and henderson in the same forward line.

From a South point of view

Good

- The first month.
- Tackling/pressure certainly up on previous years but still with a way to go.
- Have been in a lot of games at ¾ time (but haven’t ran games out well). Whilst we haven’t won many, it’s a start..
- Liddle, O’Keefe, Horne and Gotch all proven worthy recruits.
- The ruckwork of Cockshell and McKernan.
- Noticeable improvement from a few of the younger players (Murphy, Veide)

Bad

- One very ordinary quarter most weeks killing us.
- Depth, which hasn’t been helped by injuries.
- Hardly seeing last year’s B+F winner on the park, with the runner up leaving the club.
- Kicking skills
- Discipline poor at times.
- Lack of reliable forward options. Have only kicked a score of 100+ twice since start of 2009.
- A few of the younger players improvement seeming to plateau.
- Inability to beat Port.

Ugly

- Unley debacle
- Performances of reserves, who have a lot of 18 year olds, and this has effected the under 18 results in turn.

redden whites, as a question without any bandwaggon dispersions attached, were you going in the early years of the decade when there wasn't any success for the Roosters? I guess I'm trying to support your opinion of the way North are playing at the moment. If you're so unhappy, why not write to the club telling you have stopped going because of this?

Central doing enough to suggest that with the double chance and best available side on the park, they will be there on the first weekend in October again, although anything can happen in September.
