Rate your imports for 2010 so far

Postby wedgetail » Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:18 pm

There was a lot of discussion on the value of the Eagles recruits at the start of the year. All clubs have recruited with varying degrees of success.
As far as the Eagles go, I'd give the following ratings-

Lewis - 8.5/10 - a revelation and in the best players each week. B & F favourite at this stage.
Day - 4/10 - Not in best 21, seems to have a limited game. Fringe player at best.
Gilhaus - 5/10 - A work in progress with plenty to learn. Wouold be better next year with more experience.
Hoban - 5/10 - As per Gilhaus
Parry - 7/10 - Just starting to show some consistently good form and will be an asset in the finals if we make them.
Welsh - 6.5/10 - Hasn't set the world on fire but is value for every touch he gets and makes life easier for the other forwards.
Thompson - 7/10 - A surprise packet from the Crows. Has shown real poise and maturity in the past few games.
Grieger - 7/10 - Has held down full back soundly, a position we had problems with last year.

I think that's the main ones for us.

Hassan 5/10 Has been good in patches but has also been out injured
Hinge 6/10 Can provide more and needs to apply his skill better
Giles 9/10 Has been in our best players most weeks at the club and once he settled 2 or 3 rounds in has been excellent.

N Caruso 6 - Has been very good for us. Needs to work on skill level.
Harding 4 - Disappointing first few games. Starting to pick up last couple of games
A Hartlett 5 - Been injured but getting better each week.
Silvester 9 - Outstanding across the backlines. Would go very close to being recruit of year.
Chubb (if counted) 7 - Struggling for fitness but commitment to body and ball can never be questioned.
Ronaldson 3 - Left club 4 games in. Disappointing.
Go you Redbacks!

:D

What can I say, we weren't allowed any imports, but if you insist

Angas Clarke (Sturt) 7, has just been given a chance in the league side, obvious talent and will get loads more opportunities
Jak Kennedy-Hunt (South) 4, Played just 3 minutes in his opening 2's game, returned against West Adelaide and starred, looks the goods, need more time to assess
Andy Read 5, has played almost all 2's games this year and is very serviceable, needs to make an impact soon for league selection

Cheers

From Central we have

Cameron Milne- 5/10,
played some really good reserves football and was servicable in the league games he did play, especially in his last game before injury where he had 5 posessions inside the first 5 minutes. Unfortunatly got injured and won't be back this year.

James Boyd- 6/10,
hasn't played too much football due to injury but in the last 2 games he has been named BOG by the club so has definatly found some form. Is definatly alot tougher and harder than he was given credit for when he left South. Only gave a six but due to injury will give him the rest of the season plus finals to really judge him.

Kane Tenace 8/10 - Maybe didnt have the inital impact we were hoping for but his consistency to run all day and produce consistant quality football has been fantastic. Gets the job done with a minimum of fuss and hasnt had a bad game. Has shown he is pretty deadly in front of goal on the the run and hoepfully can kick a few more of these as the season progresses. Seems a quality bloke also that could have a long career at the Bay

6/10 for Boyd? You are a tough marker Whufc! He was unjured and started the season late took a few games to pick up form and the pace of the game then 2 BOGs. Pretty good I reckon - 8 or 9 out of 10.

True, in the games he has played he would probably score a 9-10 but im sure when the club recruited him they would have hoped he would have played more than 3 league games at this stage.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Lewis has been outstanding and makes a great contribution most weeks.
Thompson looks much better in defence since he's been shifted there. Seemed a bit lost across half forward.
Greiger has been a great pick up - I'd rate him ahead of Parry and Welsh for his impact on the side so far.
Welsh has been good so far but would love him to really take a game and make it his own one day!
Other "new" player to mention is James Stewart returning to SANFL footy this year. I'd give him 7/10 so far and just hope he can remain fit for the rest of the season!

Tend to agree, but not sure what your ratings are based on - the actual player performance or the value as a recruit to the club? Lewis has been outstanding and could be for a number of years. Day I think has potential to be another Grocke and I think is a very good pick up - maybe longer term. Guilhaus and Hoban I have little hope for. Parry has been excellent since returning from injury and could make a real impact in the short term. Welsh has been serviceable and is a valuable addition to the team - but would have disappointed anyone expecting him to dominate at this level. Greiger has also been outstanding. The return of Stewart has been excellent.

I would say Lewis, Greiger and Stewart have performed above expectations so far.

yeh I would agree with that
Hassan and Hinge have struggled to make a consistent impact while Giles has been outstanding and probably in our top 5 players for the year

Does big Seb keep his 5 out of 10, even though he has walked out on the Club for not getting a senior game as was predicted on this site back in March?

Glenelg must be pizzing themselves about the $13 they pocketed. Equotes to about $3k per kick!

Oh well. He was handy while Parry was injured. Played in 5 wins. That's 2 season's worth at some clubs...
