The fact of the matter is that if the player in question was moved on after he made the comments that Weslo heard, none of this would have happened.

But going off what has been written on AdelaideNow, you'd seriously think that the Eagles fans were running about handing out gifts to orphans, helping old ladies cross the road and baking cakes for the disabled when they were suddenly set upon by a hoard of gangsters.
Geez... give me a break...
No one can tell me Treeby was walking by minding his own business, hugging and kissing babies and then the cheer squad decided to chase him for no reason. Show some balance people and be a bit more realistic. While there's no doubt some of the Sturt fans acted stupidly, there can be no doubt some Eagles fans were likewise acting stupid.
Supporters who are losing don't suddenly have a go at fans who are winning, we've all been there, winning fans will have a pop verbally at the losing fans and that can set it off.
Both sides have some blame here...
While both clubs can throw their hands in the air and say "well we can't control our supporters", neither club would want to walk away from disciplining a player who has helped instigate an incident. Should a Sturt player provoke Centrals fans this coming weekend, I'd expect that player to be sanctioned.
You can't do anything about the public, but sure as hell can expect a certain level of decorum from your own players, officials and various other representatives.

Or if people were secure enough to brush off comments, it perhaps wouldn't have happened either?

Agreed.
However, if Treeby did what was alleged, he is a piss poor representative of the club. I'd have his contract terminated.
If people think its acceptable, then hey why not get all the 100kgs blokes from the Magoos out hunting in packs to quieten down the few soles that some people in the public find undesirable.
Oh that's right, WESLO were hired to do that and what a fantastic job they do...
Look at the grannie, every year, same old mugs, doing the same old crap and each year the SANFL sees no evil, hears no evil, speaks no evil... mighty fine example they set themselves.

There is plenty you can do about the public, for one ban repeat offenders, which going off the photos there certainly is some familiar faces there.
