West Adelaide have been criticised in the past for importing too many players, despite losing so many juniors to the AFL.
It's pleasing to see that their current team contains no less than 12 players who played their junior footy at the Bloods.
If Porps hadn't gone back to the Crows this week, it would have been 13.
I haven't looked at the figures for the other clubs. perhaps a fan from each club could post the relevant number for thier team.

I think the Eagles have 10 from the named 23 man squad.

12 for the Bays, Sellsy would make 13. All in bold have played junior footy at the Bay.
Not counting them for the purpose of this thread but if the "local" rule for next year was applied now the following Bays players would be considered "local": Kirkby, Murphy, B Kane, Kirk, Rudolph and Cranston.

Aerie and amBays, that's very encouraging.
Not sure about C Kane, amBays. He may have played juniors, but is hardly local content?
I presume he came over with Ben?
Still a good representation, though.

Just using your definition of "playing junior footy". Kellock falls into the same category too I think.

Fair enough, mate, but I was obviously referring to 'home-grown' SA talent, city and country.
That would make 10 for Eagles and Glenelg?

We are not quite so high at the moment. Based on our squad for our last match:
FF: J. Gowans - D.Schell - C. Gowans
HF: K.Jenner - T.Goodrem - J.Boyd
CL: J.Gunston - R.Williams - B.O’Hara
HB: L. Westhoff - J.Hardy - A.Switala
FB: A.Hayes - H.Lawry - L.Spurr
1R: J.Mackenzie - P.Thomas - I.Callinan
INT (from): C.Reichert, S.Dutschke, L.Habel, J.Sutherland, M. Westhoff
That means 9 in the 23 man squad.
However, if they were fit we would also have Sansbury, Havelberg and Cochrane playing. Nash should be in our team next week as he was dropped by the Power this week.
Cheers

From the Doggies line-up last week, shown above, there was just the 9 home grown players that BP2 mentioned above...
But, we know they have a few out injured at the moment and including AFL players in and out of Central's side, who have played league this year also include:
Brad Symes
Richard Cochrane
Eddie Sansbury
Jay Nash
Justin Westhoff
Damian Hynes
Daniel Havelberg
Ashley Duncan

Can we count James and Chris as 'locals' now? They are in their eleventh season with us. Although they did not play 'juniors' with us they have been with us longer than many 'locals' have been with their clubs.

South Adelaide
F: McKernan,Warren, Gotch
HF: O'Keefe, Woods, Horne
C: Whitford, Murphy, Veide
HB: Cook, Carter, Crate
B: Redigolo, Crabb, Carroll
R: McKenna, Handby, Liddle
Int: Richman, Livingstone, Caudle, Cockshell
In: Caudle, Warren, Woods, Handby
Out: Lyons, Rolfe, Joyce
Woods is from a local club,
Handby and Cockshell from other SANFL clubs
McKernan and Cook AFL listed
This is a good thread and worthy of some good positive comments.

To do this accurately you would have to exclude AFL listed players, the SANFL clubs are just lucky they were drafted locally...

B: Puopolo, McGuinness, Georgiou
R: Dawe, Campbell, Weatherald

Out: Gorringe (state under-18s)
Just copied and pasted our last named lineup, noting that Stoppy didn't play.
Didn't mark Davis, Dawe, Weatherald or Clarke (?) as home grown even thought they are SA lads, they didn't come through the junior system at Norwood.
Campbell and Zorzi are in their 6th and 7th seasons with the club so should be close to the "naturalised" mark.

Can you explain that to us amBays? I thought C Kane was from Vic and Kellock was a junior?

should 'local' include recruiting from the respective country recruiting zones ?.....i think yes

I think that's a separate issue, bayman.
I was looking at players who had come through the junior ranks at your club.
It's good to see such a high percentage from the clubs so far.
I haven't checked the other teams, but I'd suspect Sturt would be very, very low?

I would have thought someone like Dawe should be included, and same as Harris from Port. They haven't played at the same or higher level before, and even though they are not from their current clubs' zone, the club they have been zoned to has had the opporunity to play them and haven't, so it is smart recruiting to give these lads a chance, not just splashing $$'s around.

Both Kane (Eastern Ranges TAC Cup) and Kellock (Mildura) came to us from Victoria but were intially placed on our junior list and played 19s (C Kane definately did and I think Kellock did too - Bayman??)
So technically they are junior players developed by us. Even though they have both been here more than three years both wouldn't classify as imports under then 2011 rule as they have been on our junior list.
We did the same with Peter Berbakov almost 20 years ago. Came from Essendon U/19s when they were disbanded in 1991 but in 1992 could only make our U/19 side.

Yeah agreed mate, but wasn't sure of the exact criteria so just left them out with proviso's

Thanks mate, didn't realise that, especially about Kellock.

Under that criteria, you can add Steven Morris to Westies list.
That also doesn't count vice-captain Ben Fisher (out with injury) and several others who have played league this year - Ryan Blesing, Scott Blesing, Shannon Green.
