SANFL Jumpers

I know this topic has been talked about before, but some of the jumper designs are getting out of control. Westies jumper against Norwood looked awful, and WWT have been confused for years about what design to use. What was wrong with the traditional style jumper from every team being used. Didn't have a problem for 100+ years, so why follow the AFL into Soccerland with their away jumpers etc. Just garbage ! Would love to see Gliderol on the Bay jumper moved off the sash. Port are the only team ( IIRC ) that haven't **** with their jumper design ?

WWT......The Warriors jumper was where I think you went wrong. The original Pecker jumper was clean and straight to the point. The Torrens jumper of horizontal blue and gold stripes worked well, followed by the Bays / Westies style of jumper wasn't bad either. May a horizontal green, blue and gold would be the best and most traditional style of jumper. IMHO the traditional jumpers look best.

After all, the SANFL is THE tradition of S.A. Football :D

Food for thought I hope !

I tend to agree baysman there traditionally has been no problem, so why change things. The only real clash I see is between South and Norwood.
I hate Sturt's and North's clash/away strips, especially as their normal guernseys are great, and I don't really see who they clash with. Sturt with Centrals perhaps, but there was no problem in the 2 GF's.
Not sure what the mania was with stripes in the 70's and early 80's, with Woodville, Torrens, West and North but these were changes rather than "traditional" guernseys. The Warriors design guernsey was closer to their original strip than the stripes, and I have never understood why every thought it was such a bad design.
Agree about the Eagles though. Thought we had finally found a good solid football design with the 07-09 guernsey, but now they have changed that again (at least their spare guernseys are going to good use, could get me a free one if I knew how to steal cars ;) ).

What concerns me is the use of White in the Away guernsesys of clubs such as Sturt that do not have white in their colours, that is a massive slap in the face for the tradition of the Sturt Football Club and not one that members were given any say in.

The same goes for White Shorts with clubs that dont have White in their colours, why then clash with the umpires? If it really is about clashing then go back to the 1970's options of coloured shorts which when the AFL did it for heritage round looked quite effective on TV for reducing clashing of colours.

As for Guernseys in general I would like to see my own club go back to the more basic S A logo on the jumper, its my thoughts that it looks cartoonish in its current form! If clubs want to make money on second jumpers, then use your heritage strip is my advice and promote the history of where your club has come from at the same time to new generations of fans! - its no doubt because of Heritage Round that legions of new CDFC supporters have gotten to see the old CDFC Guernsey out for a run which IMO is the pick of the Heritage ones or the one that I remember the best anyway!

I thought Westies guernseys on the weekend was excellent, and it was the best I can recall being able to distinguish between the two sides (at least since I was a nipper eating carrots regularly).

Im not a fan of Norwood's away guernsey .. Don't think it looks to bad, but don't think it helps to avoid a clash at all.

Agree, why did they do it? one of the most baffling decisions Ive ever seen, their socks look predominantly white when not pulled fully up....

Gold, Green, Blue Horizontal Stripes wouldn't work - too much like Centrals.

I have always wanted the following;

Home Games - Old Peckers Green & Gold Vertical Stripes, Blue Shorts & Socks

Away Games - Old Torrens Blue with Gold Sash, Green Shorts & Socks

I agree wholeheartedly about 'traditional' look - I HATE these 'new' ones - the current Eagle Guernsey is terrible!

WWT use way too much yellow in their guernseys. It never looks good as a main colour. Personally I would've gone with Blue and Green and dumped the common colour so that both original clubs bring something to the table.

Have to agree with the overdoing the guernseys. Perth have this shocking away guernsey with the demon on it that isn't a patch on the traditional sash.

I can understand the AFL doing it, it's all about merchandising and nothing to do with clashes. We got by for decades without alternate guernseys.

I'd hope that the newer guernseys aren't very expensive. Would seem a shame to waste unnecessary funds.

i always thought that west torrens' blue jumper with the big gold eagle on it look a fantastic football jumper, perhaps wwt could go back to that design & obviously adding green to it

Tradition? The AFL has so much say in the SANFL, plus how the game is being played this season; I can't tell the difference besides going to various venues instead of Footy Park every 2nd week.

nearly all modern jumper designs look 5hit- the exception being Port Power.
Traditional, simple designs suit best- the Westies jumper looks like hybrid rugby/hockey jumper.
The Yanks have got it right with sports uniforms- no advertising.

That Westies guernsey isn't shocking, but not great either. Better than Sturt and North's anyway.

As someone who has seen many Norwood v West Adelaide matches, and seen players on the same team tackling each other, the West jumper is terrific.

Why Sturt wears a clash uniform is beyond me.
Thier uni doesn't clash with anybodys.
West's looks awful.
Why can't they have a red jersey with a black sash? Too sensible?
Norwood are in the same boat as West. Why don't they have a red jersey with Navy Blue collars & cuffs?
As for Woodville-Torrens, why couldn't they have stuck with Footscray-style jumper they wore when they won their first flag?
The people responsible for all W-T's jumpers since then, are a good argument for bringing back the death penalty.

Spot on, a couple of us were talking about that on saturday @ Prospect. As much as both of us disliked White for a main guernsey colour, we both thought the yellow of the Eagles was even worse.
