Geddes' ACL fears

EAGLES defender Bradley Geddes' season appears over with scans today expected to confirm damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 22-year-old was stretchered from the ground shortly before half time in Woodville-West Torrens' win against North Adelaide on Saturday.

He saw a doctor yesterday and will have scans today.

``It's terrible for him because he's starting to hit some really good form,'' coach Michael Godden said.

``He had a fantastic first half (on Saturday) and he's hard to replace (because) he's such a good user of the ball.''

Geddes was playing just his 26th league game when he suffered the injury on the outer wing at Prospect.

The 27-point win over the Roosters kept the Eagles in touch with the top three sides ahead of Saturday's huge game against Sturt.

But Godden said he was yet to decide whether his team was good enough to finish there.

``Some days I do and some days I don't,'' he said.

``I'm always shooting for the stars so I do genuinely think we're a chance, but we've had to scrape through a few wins.

``We were under no illusions at the start of the year when we had those good wins. We knew that we weren't playing great footy and against the best teams.''

Damn shame. Brad was just starting to show his undoubted ability consistently. The first full, injury pre-season he has had and now this happens. Brad is not renown as a track work horse and I hope he has the dedication, commitment and discipline to rehabilitate himself correctly. Dale Symmons looms as a likely replacement on the 1/2 back flank as his seconds form has been good and I feel his days as a forward are over.

Real shame. Just as he was playing some very good league footy week by week. He will be missed as he has been one of our better players this year.

Is Layton McMahon league material? Wouldn't mind seeing him get a go in the league team in Geddes position.

This from the member email:

Injury Update – Bradley Geddes

Unfortunately, the WWTFC has to advise members that Bradley Geddes will have LARS surgery on Friday to repair the damaged ACL in his left knee.

Using the LARS surgery technique should mean that Geddes will be in a position to start the pre-season for the 2011 season with his team mates.

On the injury Michael Godden said “It is obviously disappointing for Bradley and the Club as he was in, what most would agree, career best form and had started the game against North Adelaide in superb touch. We wish Bradley all the best with his surgery on Friday and look forward to welcoming him back to the field in 2011”.

Regards

He's also writing a blog; http://bgeddes.tumblr.com/ (link from Eagles website).

Will be an interesting read. This LARS surgery seems to be fairly new. Hopefully it works well for him and he can get back soon like Malceski/Rodan etc.

Brad's blog has captured me! Apart from the 'typos' it is fascinating reading and inspiring stuff.
What a positive outlook he has and a great example he is setting.
I look forward to reading more and hope he has a successful rehab.
A must read for all!
Is this as good as it gets

I thought this was great to read from the blog:

"...flip it over to the Port, Fremante game. Despite the score, for Port fans, within the first 5 minutes I was watching I saw the sickening incident of Michael Barlow, Yucky!
I really felt for the bloke, not only did it happen in ‘Junk Time’ but his season was going so well (3rd fav. for the Brownlow in debut season). He has really helped open the AFL’s eyes to mature aged recruits and had given me hope (all be it very slighty) of the possibility of being picked up. I felt like then and there sending him a get well card and letting him now he opened up my hopes and dreams again!!!"

Certainly from a fans point of view those players who have to do it tough to make it to the AFL earn a heap of respect. Same with those putting in the effort to play league football, such as Brad. I'm sure he (and Barlow) will come back and play plenty of great season's in the future.
