A very satifying win. We should now finish in the top 3 and be set to have another crack at the premiership.

Like the way a few new players are coming along. Was probably Boyd's best game for us so far and Habel looks the goods.

The 2nd quarter fade-out was a worry but it is still only June.

Roll on september

Some promising signs but like all year we are yet to put in a four qtr performance. Got to ensure our work-rate doesn't drop off. Oh yeah first gives would be nice, too.

Looking forward to rd 23.

<edit>

Meant to add i do like Dogs v Bays games, it is pleasure to watch how the Dogs structure up and go about their business. Its good footy to watch. Much better than the crap we'll be forced to watch tonight and tomorrow.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Because the final quarter was so decisive and Mickan made comments that it was basically the last quarter that cost Glenelg that's going to be the general feeling but, Glenelg were for a lot of the game off the pace Central set. Down by 3 goals at 1/4 time and the dogs kicked 4 unanswered in the 3rd IIRC before Glenelg pulled a couple back, there wasn't just the final quarter where they lost it. That horrible second quarter by the dogs largely masked the fact that the dogs were the better team for more or less 3 quarters.

The worry for Glenelg must be that few of the dogs prime movers were really on their games. Callinan was tagged pretty hard, Thomas looked hurt all day and played very little on ball, O'Hara had a horror day where every time he went for the ball he fumbled or made a skill error and Dutschke's disposal was poor. Thought our 3 key forwards on the day, Hayes, Schell and Gunston all worked hard and posed a threat all game. 6 goals between them and the ball spilled into open spaces many times from their contests. I don't remember too many good relieving marks from Glenelg's bigs down there, just easy ones when we missed our targets. So the dogs manage a pretty comfortable win, have a much needed week off and top spot looks really good from here. 2 wins and a fair bit of percentage, it's basically 3 wins clear with 8 games left. I expect this week Roy will want a few guys to rest some sore spots and the training will ramp up a gear to pump some extra run into the legs for finals.

Sutherland didn't suffer second game blues and seemed to gain confidence as the game wore on. I heard we'd know why he left Glenelg today. Unless he had too much heart and ability for them, I can't see why. We didn't get much value for his (or Buckets actually) hitouts but that'll improve with familiarity. Habel was good, Lawry and Hardy were fantastic down back, Williams and Jenner were both clean with the ball, and kicked some valuable goals. Boyd was good again. But Lee Spurr has to be one of the top players in the comp right now. The year to date is so similar to Heath Hopwood's year in 2000 with his toughness, relieving marks around half back and his opponent rarely gets a sniff. And he kicks better than Hoppy. Would have to be leading the B&F, even if he's no chance at the magarey.

For Glenelg, it was a really disappointing game IMHO. Outplayed for most of the game, and to be honest the second quarter was largely aided by a sudden inept performance by the dogs. Grima and Kirkby up forward are a huge worry. I know they've played well thus far this season, but rarely do either fire against the dogs. Today, 1 shot between the players regarded apparently as they best 1-2 punch in the comp, and hardly any impact around the forward 50 is part of the pattern against the dogs. Glenelg need them to stand up more and perhaps the other players around need to work harder to make space for them. Bode's legs don't seem to have many miles left in them, but Glenelg will get no value from him if they don't have other small forwards and on ballers doing damage.

I have factored in an allowance for our usual mid-season slump. If we drop 2 or 3 and the bays pick up from here they can still catch us after all they had won a few on the trot until this game..

Can't agree more. The two most entertaining games i've seen this year are our 2 matches against the bays. I think the final margin flattered the dogs somewhat as we made a lot of skill errors in the first 3 quarters and i thought the bays were a lot cleaner. Centrals just seemed to lift that slight bit in the last when the game was there to be won and the bays seemed to be unable to match it. It was great to see the dogs forwards tackling hard and still working right to the end even though the game was finished as a contest.

Also think that Glenelg would be best served by offering James Sellar to Berri as a replacement for Sutherland. After the criticism of Matty Westhoff before the game (most of which i agree with), this bloke is a complete plonker IMO.

Central need to practice their handballing over the break. It was terrible today!

typical Central, did what We had to, clinical, making sure We get the double chance, this might sound arrogant but this is what it is all about, just do what you have to do to get there. Finals are a completely different kettle of fish, so don't be too disheartened.

Well done doggies.
Good to see Hayesernator, Spurr, Habel, and Gunston play great games. As well as the usual supspects, JC.
Dont like to knock our own players, but please "lift" Westhoff.
Good to see we can win with our numbers stitched or not stiched on. ;)

Finally, to Cornes who probably sees one game a year (maybe). Sucked in you pompass, ignorant, arrogant, generalising, biasssed, moronic, skeleton of a man. I think the "chip" you carry just got bigger. You missed a good game of football. Glad to see the Bays supporters there have more character, and class than you'll ever have. The sooner they get you off that station the better. Apologise to the SANFL show.

With the way the byes sit we have 5 games against South, Port then Eagles, Sturt and Glenelg before round 1 of the finals. If we finish top (which appears a near certainty right now, but might look different in a fortnight) I think that's about as good a preparation as possible. Should give us an edge anyway. Going to be very hard to queue up many excuses if we're not good enough. Lol.

And Cornes is a joke. He hears reports of an incident and the dogs were playing, it's always our fault. Our fault Glenelg fans decided to rip down that banner a few years ago "They were provoked by the banter" IIRC, our fault there was a fight between Sturt and another club "apparently someone was wearing a CDFC jumper". Seriously, I've been going to dogs games my whole life and rarely see anything. I saw a couple of things happen, but I've also seen a West fan swing an umbrella at our players. Doesn't mean I think West fans always cause trouble. I challenge Cornes to actually write down these incidents with neutral eye witness accounts of whose fault it was and keep a score. He won't, because it'll make him realise it happens pretty much equally among all clubs.

I have no real problem with what you wrote as you live and die by your performances but it would be good if instead of over-possing the footy we get the ball in quickly to Todd and Ruory so they are one out with their opponent. When in doubt Centrals more often than not kick the ball to get out of trouble knowing that they expect their lead-up forwards to be in front. We tend to look for the hand-pass when in doubt which means byt eh time we eventually get the ball in more often than not the defence has had time to double team them.

BTW, Hayes has over-taken Dutschke as the maddest, gutsiest bastard that I have seen on the footy field for a long, long time at Our club.
