Woohoo.
Good to see us win today and North lose. Staying in the top 5, for finals

, is getting closer to reality.

Goal scorers
West: Bennett 4, F Caruso 3, Willits, Lobbe, Beech.
Eagles: Jarrad 2, Thompson, Grocke, Rowntree, Broadbent, Goldsworthy, Jacky.
I'll give a report later on but I must say well done to everyone who stayed behind for the touching tribute to Corey Siemers. I'm sure it was well and truly appreciated by all the lads.

Agree.
Well done to the Woodville/West Torrens Eagles football Club for staying on the ground.

Congratz Westies...reckon a win is probably the most fitting tribute you could pay Corey.
The ABC guys described what was planned after the game and it sounded very moving.

Just got home. Westies won which was great, but that tribute after the game was so moving. Really well done and it puts a silly footy game into perspective! RIP Corey

Very average display by the Eagles today. They were always in touch, but West always had the answers - and always seemed like they would have the answers. Even when the Eagles got within 4 points in the last quarter it still felt like West would win.
The Eagles played as individuals - no team spirit. The umpires were almost as bad. Pathetic display.
Well done to Cica who was easily our best player. I thought Geddes and Parry also played well, but it slipped from there. With our AFL contingent out and Welsh out - where is the likes of Hill and Staple who should be stepping up?
West were honest and got the result they deserved. No reason why they can't be pushing for a top 3 spot - the competition outside the top couple (or probably the top one) is average.

How was the ABC Radio call of the game between Port and Norwood JAS?
Back to this game, well done to Westies for the win, a fitting victory to honour the terrible passing of young Corey Siemers...

Only got to listen to it on RPH
Was the umpiring in the last as bad as they made it sound?
They sounded very West Adelaide biased for a while there, saying on a number of occasions the frees to WWT were ludicrous at crucial times. They did however mention a number of silly frees to WA!

Since we won I can comment on umpires.
For most of the day they had both teams supporters very confused - a rather strange (very technical) performance that overall was not good IMO. Again a lack of consistency between the three umpires and the Awfull wants to bring in more --- we should revert to two umpires even if it means they umpire up/down the center corridor.

West were absolutely shellacked by the umpires in the last quarter. (9 - 3, I think). What made it worse was that on at least 3 occasions West had broken clear into the forward lines, only for it to be brought back for some perceived technical infringement that had been let go all day. Add the clear marks that weren't paid and I'd suggest the RPH boys were probably being diplomatic.
Aside from that, it was a gutsy win, with young Johnno Beech outstanding, along with Jimmy Ezard again.
The highlight was the last gasp tackle from Chris Chubb at a vital time.

It was certainly an emotionally charged day at Richmond Oval today. Firstly, the joy of a tough win against the Eagles followed by a sad ceremony in the centre of the ground involving our 3 teams, a long minute of silence and the touching presentation of Corey Seimers jumper to his father. All at the club involved in this tribute are to be commended for the manner in which it was conducted and also the Eagles for their participation.
The day started well for the Bloods with the 2s winning 11.7 to 7.9. Greg Rowe, Harding and Bronik Davies played in this game with Myles Krakouer and Greg Rowe making valuable contributions.
Lobbe came into the senior side and this was a crucial βinβ for the team as the Eagles rucks were the experienced Parry and Biglands. Scott Welsh did not play. Schmidt tagged Vince and the 2 players went hard at each other all day. Schmidt clearly winning this absorbing dual.
Westies started well and singles to F Caruso, Bennett, Beech and Willets saw us with a 4.2 to 1.3 lead at Q time. The second developed into a hard slog. Both teams were evenly matched but the Eagles had most of the play for the whole game and failed to capitalize whereas Westies made the most of their chances. The second Q saw only 2 goals scored and at half time scores were WA 5.4 to WWT 2.5.
The game opened up a lot in the 3rdQ with F Caruso dangerous around goals for us and Bennett taking grabs in a gradual but welcome return to form. The umpires took exception to this faster and freer style of footy and imposed themselves onto the contest with a series of confusing and dreadful decisions which favoured the visitors. Simon Munn had a horror run in this Q when he turned the ball over 3 times on the Eastern flank allowing the Eagles to pepper the goals. He then gave away a crucial 25m penalty. 3Q WA 8.4, WWT 5.7.
The last Q saw a further lift in intensity from both sides and an even greater deterioration in officiating. The Eagles, in particular, scoring crucial goals from some poor umpiring decisions. Westies, who had led all day, were determined to maintain the buffer and Ryan Bennett rose to the challenge with 2 strong marks and 2 goals. When Chris Chubb chose to do something inspirational late in the game he picked the right place to do it: right in front of the grandstand. He was competing against 2 Eagles players who succeeded in eluding him and were about to drive the ball into attack when Chubb desperately launched himself at the ball carrier and dragged him to the ground, catching him holding the ball, gaining possession and saving precious time. A short time later the Eagles made another surge on the eastern flank when Daniel Caire took a diving and courageous mark to thwart another attack. Wonderful footy by a team determined to win.
Bennett booted 4. He marked strongly and kicked truly. F Caruso bagged 3. Jonathon Beech won the award for BOG after the game but it was a strong team effort. Ezard and F Caruso were close behind. Silvester again demonstrated what a valuable recruit he is to the club. Lobbe rucked against 2 experienced opponents all day and broke even β a great effort. Steve Morris continued his comeback from serious injury but has to be careful in his attack on the body, he is sometimes over exuberant and needs to concentrate more on the ball. Our backline were supreme all day and they strangled the Eagles of scoring chances. Ferguson had a quiet one which made our win so much better.
