Pathetic SANFL Progamming

In analysing the current SANFL schedule, we find a Port Adelaide fixture littered with programming anomalies and our few home games clashing with the Power.

Skip forward a couple of weeks to the split round, and we find the Power with the bye. Does the the SANFL allow the Magpies to capitalise on this rare, stand-alone occasion?

No, they give them the bye as well. ](*,)

I'm not sure whether the fixture was created by total amateurs, or someone that knows EXACTLY what they are doing! X(

Fair point.

the SANFL work out the draw based on every side playing each other five times over two years and based on club requests - e.g. Norwood like early season home games, Glenelg request a game on teh holiday Monday in june.

All these request are programmed into a computer and draw is produced.

Therefore if your club had the forsight to ask for a game when Port Power had a mid-season break and to ask for a game at Footy park to celebrate your 140th - remember the AFl draw comes out before the SANFLs chances are you would have got these.

If i was a Port memebr I'd be asking at the next AGM why arent we planning our season ahead to maximise out attendances such as playing when Port power have the mid season break.

And of course North Adelaide wouldn't be all that pleased with having a 5 day break after Monday's game against the Bays to then have to head out to Elizabeth on the Saturday.

As mentioned on another thread, if North were scheduled for the Sunday game, like the Bays are against Sturt this week, then that would be fair and reasonable with both sides that played Monday gone get an equal 6 day break each.

Some 'interesting' elements the draw this year to say the least !!

So you're naturally assuming the Port Adelaide hierarchy (minus a CEO) didn't ask?

For 2009 the North hierarchy put in a raft of reasonable requests and weren't granted one. I don't know whether they bothered this year.

The other week too was a classic case of bad programming, on the Saturday North played South in direct competition with the Crows - result smallest crowd in history at Prospect. On the Sunday Port played the Eagles in direct competition with the Power being beamed on TV. Logic would have dictated that the two games should have been swapped, but the SANFL draw does not seem to ever be logical.

I did get told sometime back that North agreed to the Monday game then the 5 day break however I have since confirmed that despite several protests when the draft draw came out - it fell on deaf ears.

Hate to be a whinger (and it is no excuse for the poor performances / results of North this year) but it appears that the SANFL have taken a dislike to North for being out spoken on a number of matters in recent years and that they extract their revenge via the draw.

Port Magpies also have very good cause to complain this season as clearly there is no real logic that I or many others can see (as discussed on this topic) behind a lot of the scheduling of their games also?

True and all really good points BUT i think every SANFL team can come up with some dissapointing points of their draw and why the SANFL would do that to them.

You're talking about an organization that dug its head in the sand throughout the 80s, insisting there was nothing wrong with a six-day break for the preliminary final winner.
And most of the people who were there then are still there.
Can you really be surprised when common sense is abandoned?

I reckon its more Port being disorganised and worrying more about mergers at the time than anything else.

West have been able to move 2 of their games this year. Why? Because they approached the SANFL and the opposition club well before the event and all parties came to agreement.

All clubs get a draft fixture to ponder over. I'm also assuming that Port didnt ask to play a home game when the power had the week off because why would the SANFL knock that back?
West were able to change fixture dates, why Port couldnt when the draft fixture came out I dont know.

Yeah right, the merger was such a minor little issue. Please, are you Leigh Whicker in disguise?

As for shifting games, West Adelaide gave far less notice of their desire to shift the Port game to Friday night than Port gave to Glenelg, yet Port agreed to the move.

The real question is, why the programing was done that way in the first place? Incompetance or Agenda?

Well that computer is broken...

All I have seen over the last few years is one dumb ass AFL fixture program after another and the SANFL doing it's absolute best to mimic that stupidity... we played Norwood on the weekend, forgive me, but I don't remember playing them 8 weeks prior, teams should be playing a round robin in the first 10 rounds or so, then repeating that.

This stupid situation where you can play South twice in a month and then play Glenelg for the first time 2/3 of the way into the season is just complete and utter nonsense and we don't even have the luxury of saying its because we're being pushed around by television, its just people putting no thought into it at all.

Why does a competition that has a bye need a split round? Stupid.

I'm most puzzled by a mob that spread the "us vs. the rest" attitude far and wide are now complaining about how everyone is against them.

As part of my job i create fixtures for soccer/netball competitions,

while there not on any scale compared to the SANFL it is not that hard to make sure teams play each other once before playing other teams again. Geez if your lazy theres plenty of website that will do this for you for free.

To give some of the interstate players and country lads a chance to go home and spend time with their families?

I probably don't have all my facts so please correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't the Port v Glenelg game going to be played at FP before a Power game? If so, what are the Glenelg supporters expected to do, buy a $25 ticket just to see their team play when they can see them for $10 or already have a season ticket?
