Ladders after Rd 12

Postby scott » Sat Jun 12, 2010 8:54 pm

League: A win for Centrals despite only winning one quarter against West Adelaide. Port Adelaide also jumped off the bottom of the ladder for the first time since round four over the now bottom South Adelaide, while Sturt broke Norwood's six-game losing streak to stay in touch with the five, and Glenelg are back into second place for the first time since round five on the back of a nine-goal final term against North.

Reserves: It started with a four-point win by West Adelaide over Centrals after the Dogs won the first three quarters. The competition is so tight that the Bloods jumped from 7th to 2nd all within the space of a kick. They've shifted back to 3rd following Port's grilling of the still winless South, while Sturt momentarily slipped out of 1st by a matter of minutes after Port's win until the final siren sounded on their 49-point victory over Norwood. North Adelaide's nine-goal third quarter was the catalyst in their high-scoring win over Glenelg, moving them to their highest position on the ladder for the year - third.

Under 18s: Top three Port, Glenelg and West all continued on their merry way, while Norwood's crucial 29-point victory over Sturt was their first win at home this season, keeping them at an arm's length of the five.

Pedantic questions of the week ...

I stand corrected but at what point were the Eagles not in the 5?

I assume you're counting the first round bye?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I’m only the administrator of the estate of dedja … my yes be yes, my no be no

Correct.

Round's 1-12: 6th, 4th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 4th

Normally in round 1 the team with the bye is in fifth spot, with the four winners taking the top four spots, the four losers taking the four bottom spots and the bye team stuck in the middle instead of bottom.

But since five teams scored a point due to the draw, unfortunately they had to slip to sixth. No real other way to do it. Can't exclude round 1 for the Eagles as it doesn't make it consistent. So the unfortunate sad fact is the team with the bye in round 1 can never have a perfect season on top and sometimes won't have a perfect record in the top five. But ah well what can ya do. 8)
