Michael Coad in intensive care.

Postby scottroo » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:58 pm

AN on-field collision likened to that of a car crash has left Gold Coast Football Club defender Michael Coad in intensive care in a Melbourne hospital.

The 26-year-old sustained broken ribs and was taken to Epworth Hospital after the collision in which he put his body on the line in the club's VFL loss to the Northern Bullants on Saturday.

What was broken ribs became more serious when it was found Coad, originally from Adelaide, was bleeding from the kidneys. Doctors say one of his smashed ribs sliced a piece off one of his kidneys.

Hope hes ok

They're saying he'll make a full recovery.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Wasn't there an AFL lad about 3 or 4 years back who lost a kidney after a very bad on-field collision?

Don't remember his name but iirc he made a good recovery and even returned to playing so I'd hope this lad would recover ok too, barring complications of course. Still sounds like a very nasty incident and wish him a full if not speedy recovery.

Not surprised by the injury considering Hammer collected him.

Very sad to hear, hope he comes back better, harder and stronger. Get better Coady.
