The PAFC, the PAMFC and the SANFL have agreed to terms that will allow the Magpies to move their Administration back to Alberton Oval, 14 years after leaving to make way for the Power's Admin team.

This will eliminate the rent the Magpies currently pay on the Port Rd premises they are in and in retun the PAFC will now have 100% control of the Port Club. Perhaps making way for the club to be moved from Alberton Oval to a more prominent site, potentially increasing income.

So how does losing any control they had to the Port club help the Magpies?

This stinks a little.

The PAFC will give the PAMFC a "lump sum payment" to basically buy the 25% share of the Port Clubs profit back. The Port Club hasn't made money for a few years so no loss to the Pies.

Would love to know what that 'lump sum' payment is.

Might not be making a profit now but what about if/when it does?

Still doesnt smell right.

Hope this doesnt include Magpie memorabilia pre 1997 which I think is owned by Magpies.

Be a damn good match with the style of Footy both clubs are playing at the moment.

Anyway Ruccis gone from us being the power players to Glenelg being the power players and today to it being Glenelg, West, Central, WWT and Sturt. We've fallen off he radar completely, it took Rucc a little longer than most to realise how mediocre and insignificant North truly are but he got there eventually.

I assume if this new deal works well the Port fans will give credit and thank the other 8 clubs surely?

The big win for the Magpies comes when the 40 poker machines based at Alberton are transferred to another location in the Northern suburbs. This removes 40 machines as direct competition to the 33 machines at the Price of Wales and should result in increased gaming revenue and increased value of the Hotel.

As the merger didnt get passed I thought the Magpies were doomed and this was to be their last season.

Surely back then the ultimatum wasnt just propoganda.

No no no, dont go down that path. The proposed merger was to ensure the long term future of the Magpies. Recent membership numbers ( now over 7000 ) along with sponsorship and various donations means the club is certain of playing in 2011. Any moves from now on are about building beyond 2011.

Looking forward to seeing all the Magpies fans at the Bay next Sunday, given their survival appears to be more certain...

Great to see the club back at Alberton but seeing as we will now get no money from the Port Club will we not allow them to open the side door to the oval to try and make people use the outside bars. I see no point now in using the venue on matchdays.

This will help the club in the short term but I still want to see us gain money from using the venue for gamedays and after match functions.

Hats off to the Magpies, proposing a merger they knew would not get up was one of the great marketing ploys. Saved the club and now they go down the same path anyway without the merger ...brilliant !

The PAFC purchased the 25% share with a lump sum payment that will clear the Port Club debt, the SANFL debt and leave enough $$ to pump into the POW. The Magpies will also enjoy major savings by not having to pay rent to Maughan Theim for their Port Rd offices.

It'd be good if the Magpies could get a grant of $1.75 million like the Rudd Government just announced for North. Might help!

Our debt is because we were allowed to host functions there with a pay later agreement. this debt is high as we did not pay once last year I believe.

I still say a good outcome short term but I would like to see some deal struck for our home games that see us get soemthing from it once the Pokies are moved.

Interesting note Before the Merger talks we had approaced the Power with this deal which was turned down by them.

Away game functions would now be best suited for the POW if the club is serious about making money there.
