Round 8 - Sturt v Panthers @ Unley Sat 15th May 2.10pm

The Double Blues will be particularly keen to find form after their disappointing effort before the bye.

South are an improved side this year, but at Unley i think Sturt will win by about 6 goals.

This is where it becomes the real test for South and where the tough grind of the season kicks in. The pre-season enthusiasm has rolled on with some reasonable performances over the first few weeks, but we have seen this plenty of times over the years from them and other teams. A big thumping here and it could start to do all that hard work, and they are unlucky to run into Sturt having a fortnight to stew on their last performance.
For the comps sake, I hope you're not right, Bayman. I'll have a bit more faith, but still think Sturt will win. Blues by 4-5 goals.

There is only one small reason why Sturt might win, and thats because its being played at Unley picnic grounds

Sturt will win because its the "on" week... next week, will be an "off" week and whoever we meet then, gets a nice shiny 10 goal win over us, cos we're just that type of caring and sharing team these days!

I am fully expecting (and demanding) a hungry and committed Sturt side to run onto Unley Oval on Saturday. They will have had two weeks of soul searching and some questions about attitude and committment have been posed.....we await the answer.

To Prowling Panther, I'll take a picnic ground with a good size crowd and atmosphere every day of the week and twice on Sunday's over the alternative down South...

Recent clashes at Unley have produced some beltings:

2009- Sturt by 77
2008- Sturt by 121 (just about the worst 2.5 hours of footy I’ve had to sit through!)
2007- Sturt by 110
2006- South by 107

Good comment.

I expect Sturt to win by 10 goals + this weekend. Seriously. If they don't come out absolutely fired up wanting to avenge their dismal performance in round 1, then I might as well tear my membership up...

Actually, I'll change my prediction - Sturt by 15 goals.

Clarridge there have been some beltings last 4 years. I wonder why this is so. I know South were very strong in 06 and Sturt were down. Last year South were down and you were up. You would think on a small ground it would be easier to man up and conjest the play when you get down. It seems once you are on a roll with one kick out middle ball is at full forward. Having Chambers and Warren which are 2 pretty good forwards helps finish off. Once your on a roll hard to stop.
I reckon quite a few games at Unley are hidings. Be interesting to see the stats how many games with all clubs under 20 pts are played at Unley. I would guess
20%.

fair enough..
but this bagging of Hickinbotham Oval really gives me the s---ts.

I'll take a ground that is ours and is not owned by the local councils or local ratepayers.
I'll also take a ground that incorporates a licensed facility , not one that is leased somewhere down the road.
I'll also take a ground that we have added value to ,which in fact is ours, not hired/ rented from someone else.
Ill also take a ground where I can get a car park within 500 metres.
It may be cold (its not), it may be a long way away (by today's standards its not,in any case you only have to go there once a year), it may lack atmosphere (Unley would probably lack atmosphere too if Sturt had'nt won a flag for 50 yrs...?)
Critisize it if you like, but it belongs the the SAFC ,we have a 99 year lease; we run it and we will , for the next 99 years.
Get over it and get used to it.

I can't think of anything wrong with Noarlunga apart from the minor aspect of the light pole in front of the scoreboard. The location and how windy/cold it may get are purely just quirks. These should be welcomed and not canned because it is one advantage the SANFL has over the AFL - as a supporter you can afford to go to 9 regular grounds with all their nuances. Whereas you will need to have a considerable amount of dough to go to the 6 all seater stadia during the minor round if you were a Crows or 5 plus Darwin (twice!) for a Port fan.

Thanks for the unwarranted rant mate. To be fair, I was simply responding to a stupid phrase used by one of your own. Sure, two wrongs don't always make a right but all I was really doing was sticking up for Unley Oval.

For the record, I don't have any real issue with Noarlunga. It boasts a great deck, it's not that far away, good car parking, tasty BBQ and good vantage points. On top of that we rarely lose there and there are always plenty of fellow Sturt supporters congregated on the hill. The downsides are the total lack of atmosphere and that stupid PA announcer who thinks he's at a basketball game and not a game of footy....seriously I know there aren't many of you but surely if a few members got onto the club and asked them to can the spruiker, they'd be compelled to listen?

Back to the footy. Expect some personnel changes to the Sturt side and expect the 21 who pull the jumper on to right some wrongs in front of the faithful. Can the Panthers bring a few supporters along for a change given Ron has your side up and about?

Wow, we are precious tonight aren't we MST, trouble is with a lot of people on here they cant see the forest for the trees, as soon as someone makes a bit of a light hearted comment on anything at all, all they think of doing is coming back with both barrels blazing.

Get over it mate. Your oval is a lifeless, boring place to watch football. Ours is a playground riddled with dogshit. Doesn't mean a bulls arsehole to the result this weekend.
