Still the final round of U/16s to be played tomorrow (three games), but here goes:

What a tight comp! This time 2 weeks ago Norwood were bottom and are now 3rd! Granted most other teams have a game in hand.

What's quite odd is that North have the highest score in one match so far, but have the worst attack on average?

Although that's not too hard to imagine after watching todays' match. The South match appears to have been a one-off.

Yeah agree. Watched the reserves game and the first half of the u18s game and was very disappointed with the panthers in both grades.

They have a fantastic area down there and year in year out they are not producing the results.

What is going on down there with their junior development?

Down here we have a better comp than the SANFL hence why the SANFL club based here is carp!

Are the results for the Bulldogs in the lower grades the same as they have produced for the last four or five seasons? I recall a very strong Bulldogs outfit in the Magoos. Could this be a sign that perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel for the clubs trying to put the Dog out? Or is it 'business as usual'?

As has been discussed elsewhere REB, part of the reason for the lower grades at Central struggling is due partly to do with depth but mainly because of the flow-on effect that 7 or 8 injuries to league players has down through the grades.

There would be at least 6 walk up starters out injuured for the Dogs at the moment that upon returning to the side, will send some 'fringe' league players back to the reserves and some of the Under 18's lads playing reserves will drop back down to the 18's. Yes, Central's reserves and Under 18's are struggling at present but I would expect them to improve as the season progresses.

I was speaking with Central Under 18's coach Grant Coffee at Norwood on Friday night and he said that his side is struglling at the moment because he has a lot of his better players playing reserves football, again because of that flow on effect as a result of the high number of injured league players at Elizabeth.

For example, Grant Coffee told me Friday night he recieved a phone call from Jeff Brown, the Central reserves coach, advising him that there will be 2 more of Coffee's better under 18's players going up to the reserves (yesterday at Alberton) because of a couple of late withdrawals from the Dogs intitially selected side.

At present, yes the club would be dissapointed to have the lower grades struggling while the league team is going along nicely, but they will no doubt see some light at the end of the tunnel and wont be hitting the panic button just yet.

There's no overnight fix to rebuilding a club across the board, and I don't reckon they could have a better man in charge ... If results were the same in 2 or 3 years time then I'd be concerned as a Panther supporter, but for now it's a game of patience (as it is and has been for us at the Parade)

When you've stripped your reserves team of players to fill the league team it's a bit unfair to expect results across lower grades.

South are a three year proposition.

It is the most even comp I can remember for a long time. I don't expect it to last though. Things will settle down and the 'upsets' will be less frequent after the next few weeks.

Some teams are getting ahead of themselves. They're in for a fall. (I know...Sturt have already suffered this!)

We all know that South's lack of on-field performance is the one constant in SANFL. But... as a reason for why South's lower grades are not performing this year, I reckon my comment's pretty fair. If they stick with their plan they will enjoy a lot more success in about 2-3 years time when their playing list all have about 40 games under their belts...

The dogs have been ahead 83% of the time - you have to be happy with that.

Of interest is the huge variation in avearge winning and losing scores - Norwood and Strurt are the same.

On the other hand both the Eagles and Port have a very small spread between winning and losing averages despite being at opposite ends of the table.

This all means something - but I have no idea what
