Sturt assessment

Just thought I would start a thread on what Blues fans would like to see change over the next fortnight. Any players you think should be left out of our next game?
Maybe you want Normo to slaugter them on the track this week? I remember Phil would get us out to a training session at 7am after a loss like Friday night. Maybe that would have been a good idea.
I wouldn't mind also hearing from other teams supporters who've seen us play and what they think our downfalls have been. Obviously there'll be people try to have fun with this but a good honest assessment from an opposition supporter would be appreciated.
Let it rip.

Ben Nelson. Where is he at?

I asked this on the review thread and got no answer.

Reckon Ben has definitely slowed and it will be his last year.
I think his 'smarts' are what keeps him in it and he'll still provide value in crunch games but his lack of pace will be exploited at times.
To tell you the truth I haven't noticed him much in games this year which may say alot more about his influence than I realised until I just gave it some thought.

Agreed.

With Jaensch:

W/L: 2-1-1
For: 382
Against: 284

Without:

W/L: 0-2
For: 135
Against: 258

Interesting...

Norman can borrow Healy's game plan! That might help us more than you though?

Indeed, no obvious faults... except perhaps that the bloke on the scoreboard could lift his game a little...

I think Nelson hasn't been too bad, thought he had a good game against the bays, he still provides a strong body around the packs and backlines. Maybe with McLeay back it might change.
I think we lack discipline, mental toughness and desire to win at all costs. From the start of the year we've had players in and out of form and too many not putting in the hard yards on the day. Normo summed it up after Fridays game by saying " these guys are so far ahead of themselves it's not funny".
Flog 'em Normo!

Weren't these the areas Norman was employed to address way back when his appointment was announced 18 months ago. They were the very traits he said to be bringing to Sturt which were lacking to top them off for a premiership. :?

Refer below for interview at time of appointment.

LUKE Norman will start his tenure as Sturt coach with a four-hour player meeting on Friday night when he plans on telling them to ``toughen up’’.

Although pleased with Sturt’s progress in the past two years (8th to a semi final), Norman said the Double Blues needed to be physically stronger if they wanted to win SANFL finals.

``We’re on the right path,’’ he said. ``And we’re not going to change too much of our game style. ``But we need more strength. Our bodies aren’t quite big enough. ``We’re okay out in the open, but we need to be better inside.’’

``The boys have already been in the gym, really working on their core strength,’’ he said. ``We’ll probably do a lot more game-style training over summer and back off the running a little bit. ``We need to play a tougher brand of footy and Central District is definitely the benchmark.’’

Nelson I thought got found out a bit against the Eagles, which was caused by the bad luck of the injury to Thurstans. Add McLeay to Thurstans and Wark, and Nelson can fit in well, but too have to rely on him as a second tall defender seemed beyond him now. Hopefully he finishes his career on a good note.

Agree about Bode. Have only seen Sturt on the telly, but at times he seems to have been playing to a different gameplan than the rest of the Sturt team.
