Eagles killed us in the middle today. Lack of a recognised ruckman really hurt us.

Lewis and Jarrad were running around like unregistered dogs and really used the ball well on most occasions.

Salter was well held by Chubb with all of Salter's score coming in the last quarter.

Does anyone know how the Eagles lad is that went off on a stretcher in the reserves game after a sickening head clash with Wade Champion.

Hands were a bit sloppy today I thought though. I'll put him in the best players just for sheer weight of possessions then.

I'll let others comment on the non-holding the ball decison in the Eagles defensive goal square with about 3 mins to go, West down by 11 pts and all the momentum.

Yeah, I thought he fumbled a lot, but still got a heap of the ball. Not as effective as you'd expect with that amount of the ball.

Was a game I thought the Eagles were in control of for most of the match, despite the score being close. Early West were able to cut through the defence of the Eagles a little too easily, but the Eagles closed that down for the 2nd half. The Eagles got out to their biggest margin at about the 18 minute mark of the last quarter, but it was after that when West played their best football, kicking 3 foals in 3 minutes to get within 11 points and having Jarrad almost caught holding the ball for the second time in 2 minutes right in front of goal with time still left. But, it wasn't to be and Treeby's goal after the siren saw a margin of 18 points.

I thought Grocke was outstanding and easily the best player on the ground for the Eagles. Welsh was very good, playing his best game so far for the Eagles and setting up plenty in the forward half. The rest were fairly even with players coming in and out of the game. Chubb did a great job on Salter as Grieger did down his end for the Eagles. Stewart had a good first game back for the Eagles and will be better for the run. Powell was constantly at the bottom of the pack and putting his body on the line. Treeby had his best game so far this year.

A very important win for the Eagles to set up 3 tough games against North, Central and Glenelg in the next 3 weeks. At this stage the Eagles are looking better than I expected. Lewis has been a fantastic addition and we have been lucky to have the use of Salter and Broadbent so far. Welsh is starting to find his feet and hopefully Parry will be back in the reserves next week - Miles and Guilhaus have been good in his absence.

I admit that our ball skills probly cost us the game and no Ruckman. The loss of Bennett really didnt help us aswell. Good effort by the boys though

Bloods 08 .I thought your guys took the ball away from centre better than we did.Your smalls were faster than ours IMHO.But i don't think your over defensive game style helps your teams cause just what I think.
Hicks was walking around after the game.
Staples I think broke his hand or hurt his shoulder
And someone else did a knee .Eagles Seconds won with no players on the bench .

Fair enough then.

Highlights the umpires today .
They kept shielding their eyes in forward line contests .So how do 3 umpires miss head high contact after head high contact in every marking contest in the eagles forward line!!

Correct, sometimes they stand in the wrong places, maybe it's the way they are tought, maybe we have to ask which side can they stand on. somethimes it is hard to stand with their backs to the sun as there isn't room, maybe have to get the boundary umpires to give some frees.

Welsh isn't kicking bags of goals, that has been done by Salter most weeks. What Welsh has been doing is giving space for Salter to work in effectively. He has also being doing many 1% ers like blocking other defenders or drawing a good defender away from our other forwards. I would say an effective contibutor at the moment without setting the world on fire. Thought his game today was his best for the Eags. I believe Godden rates his contributions highly and he has been terrific for the younger players around the club off the field.
