Kudos to Big Phil

I'd like to take this opportunity to send a bit of a shout-out to Big Phil Aspinall.

When he first started out on the SAFooty forum, I was a critic and I remember giving him a fair old canning a few times (I wasn't the only one) for what I perceived to be some over-the-top, big-mouth albeit passionate comments, boasts and opinions, not to mention some insults as well.

Then he had a shot at radio as a boundary rider following an invitation from Big Phil Herden. I recall hearing one of his earliest games, and he seemed all at sea, a bit nervous and he mispronounced a few names (Centrals names at that).

I don't tend to listen to many games but I listened to Norwood v Port the other night, and I have to say Big Phil has become a very polished commentator. I'd rate him the equivalent of DB, Grant Coffee or Phil Herden. he was insightful and well spoken. He's not a play-by-play guy like those others but I'm sure given the improvement he has shown, that play by play isnt beyond him.

Keep up the good work Big Phil.

Well done Atlanta Hawks for having the gumption not to dis-own your earlier opinions even though you have changed your mind about them.
As for Big Phil; listening to his commentary is not as bad as getting my balls stuck in the toaster, but there are some things that I enjoy more. ;)

Big Phil, based on previous feedback from atlantahawks I'd take the compliment. (Remember Tanya Mudge !!)

It should also be noted that Phil probably created a NEW SANFL RECORD by not only attending every league game on the weekend but managing to commentate on radio at all four games.

As a work collegue the best thing about Phil is his versatility and flexibility to take on what ever role needs to be done to ensure a better coverage. Always someone I enjoy working with at the footy.

Ha! Indeed.

Tanya Mudge .... farrk, you've got a good memory PH. In spite of my scathing criticisms of TM back in 2003 or whenever it was, im sure she's actually a lovely girl.

Wonder what she's doing now ...

Meh, a couple of years back I took photos of all 4 games and 3 were played at the same time, none of this gap between games or games played on different days that makes it easy for amateurs.
Get back to us when he manages to commentate all 4 games when theyre on at the same time. We can talk about impressive records then!
