Oh, and well played South.

Great performance South... really, really pleased for the Panthers. They should have got the 2 points against our mob in round 1, completely outclassed us that day... here's to the South boys hopefully making the finals this season!

Congratulations to South. Obviously much improved fitness, they seem to be finishing off their games strongly.
Looking at the scores, again too much of a focus on Salter.
For those at the game, was the wind a factor? Did the Eagles not make enough use of it in the third, and was that because of Ron's or God's tactics?

Ron deserves massive praise... lets forget about the opponent today, Ron's battling years of entrenched South culture there, when we were down by a couple of goals in round 1 at 3/4 time, we were saying, who will win, South's culture or Ron Fuller, as it turned out, South's culture almost got over the line... but I have to say, the tide seems to be turning, Ron seems to be getting something out of that team and kudos to him.

How could anyone not want to see South play finals...

Quarter by quarter

Panthers 5-1 9-5 9-6 18-10
Eagles 5-3 8-4 12-6 15-6

Really good win by the Panthers today. Shaun McKernan certainly came to play today and was terrific in the ruck and up forward. Nick Liddle was in everything early and was much improved after a disappointing game last week. Horne and Rolfe continued their good form.

Nick Salter was amazing and always seemed to kick a goal whenever the Eagles needed it until the supply dried up in the last quarter.

There's a lot to like about South this year. They are a LOT quicker and sharper than recent years. Well done lads.

The Eagles won the toss and kicked with a strong 4 goal breeze in the opening quarter. It looked like the Eagles may get away, but South pegged them back to be 5 goals each at the quarter time break. The 2nd quarter saw the Eagles hang in there against the breeze and did well to be just the one goal down at half time. The first 17 minutes of the 3rd quarter was an arm wrestle. Tough, contested football. There were no goals scored and this was a big win to South. But, just when the quarter looked to be a big win for South by closing the game down, the Eagles burst through to kick 4 goals in the last 7 minutes and go in to 3 quarter time 3 goals up with all the momentum. The final quarter was a shootout. South kicked the fist two, then it was goal for goal, before South proved to be too good, piling on 9 goals and ending up winning convincingly.

It was a really good game of footy. Despite the conditions, the skills were good. South won the stoppages and generally moved the ball on quicker than the Eagles. Two bizarre goal umpiring decisions in the last quarter. Both down the same end - one looked like Thewlis kicked a clear goal and it was awarded a point and then a minute later McKernan kicked a point and it was awarded a goal.

For the Eagles, Salter was fantastic with 7 goals. McKenzie, Lewis and Rowntree were all pretty good. In the end though, South played the better footy and deserved their win. The Eagles now back with the pack and in danger of losing a spot in the 5 if they lose to West next week.
