Round 8 of the Under 16s produced three thrillers:

Port Magpies 12.2 (74) def. Norwood 10.8 (68) by 6 points
North Adelaide 13.9 (87) def. Glenelg 11.16 (82) by 5 points
South Adelaide 13.10 (88) def. Eagles 13.6 (84) by 4 points
Central District 13.11 (89) def. Sturt 10.9 (69) by 20 points

Glenelg's narrow loss has opened the door for either Norwood or West Adelaide to snatch the final place in the Grand Final against North Adelaide with just two rounds remaining.

Glenelg, Norwood and West all have one match to play. The Bays play South in Round 10, Norwood plays Sturt in Round 9 and West plays the Eagles in Round 9 also.

Round 5 of the Maccas Cup saw a draw, a thriller and two blow-outs.

Port Magpies 5.10 (40) vs. Norwood 6.4 (40) draw
Sturt 10.6 (66) def. Central District 9.10 (64) by 2 points
Glenelg 16.24 (120) def. North Adelaide 6.5 (41) by 79 points
Eagles 20.14 (134) def. South Adelaide 3.6 (24) by 110 points

Glenelg the runaway leaders at this stage of the competition which is no real surprised. They played with North yesterday, sitting on 8.19 at three quarter time before putting the foot down in the final quarter but their superior skills could have so easily have seen a repeat of their score against Centrals the week earlier.

I think the scores may look a little different from now on as College football has commenced. Sturt and Norwood particularly loose numbers to the college system. Also looking at the team sheets Glenelg and Port playing true U18's, most of the team born 1992 or 1991. Norwood playing 98% 17 year olds, born 93. Don't expect a lot from my Legs but next year bigger and better!!

I think you will find that Glenelg get hot pretty badly once College starts as well. We are lucky that we seem to have the depth to cover. We even had a couple U/18 play in the Reserves due to injuries Saturday.

Didn't really hurt too much last year. We use a lot of kids from the SE to fill the void too.....

But he is not an U18 - he is 19yo this year - people just write anything they want to support a point of view regardless of the facts.
The facts are that there were no U18 players playing for Glenelg reserves last Saturday which was the basis of PUNTERS original abliet unsubstantiated point.

So in fact what he should have said was:
"I think you will find that Glenelg get hurt pretty badly once College starts as well. We are lucky that we seem to have the depth to cover. We even had NO U/18s play in the Reserves due to injuries Saturday."

He also says that "Glenelg get hurt pretty badly once College starts as well".
In fact I think they only lose 3 or 4 - nothing like Norwood and Sturt. Don't always believe what you read.

No worries mate- James Hinge was named in the U18s as emergency and got called up late Fri night to play Reserves on Saturday. He hasn't played a game previously in 2010 so doesn't show up with (O) on SANFL lists. I don't have access his DOB as you obviously do. For this oversight I definitely deserve a thorough dressing down

The penultimate round of Under 16s saw all the away teams come away with victories.

West 6.8 (44) def by Eagles 17.17 (119)
Centrals 7.9 (51) def by North 17.14 (116)
South 8.14 (62) def by Port 14.8 (92)
Sturt 6.14 (50) def by Norwood 14.9 (93)

West and South bowed out of the Grand Final race with losses, with the Panthers' loss perhaps the most disappointing against a Port side that came into the match with 1-5 record and an equal competition-worse time-in-front percentage of 13. North made it 8 from 8 in the H&A season and Norwood disposed of Sturt to remain in the final's hunt. So it's going to be North against either Glenelg or Norwood.

Image

Three matches to finish off the H&A season next Sunday at Woodville starting with South v Glenelg 9.45am, Eagles v Centrals 12.15pm and finally Sturt v Port 2.45pm.

The match to focus on will be South v Glenelg. The Bays don't necessarily need to win to make finals, as even a small loss would let them get through (roughly 18 pts). Below is a sample of the minimum Glenelg would have to score if they lose and South score between 73 and 100 pts.

Glenelg v South
51 v 73
52 v 74
54 v 75
55 v 76
56 v 77
57 v 78
58 v 79
59 v 80
61 v 81
62 v 82
63 v 83
64 v 84
65 v 85
66 v 86
68 v 87
69 v 88
70 v 89
71 v 90
72 v 91
74 v 92
75 v 93
76 v 94
77 v 95
78 v 96
80 v 97
81 v 98
82 v 99
83 v 100

Round 6 results in the Macca's Cup U/18s:

West 13.8 (86) def by Eagles 13.17 (95)
Centrals 8.8 (56) def by North 13.7 (85)
South 5.11 (41) def by Port 17.17 (119)
Sturt 10.13 (73) def Norwood 10.10 (70)

No major ladder movements. Glenelg had the bye and remain on top. Port had a huge win over South to stay within an arm's length of the Bays. Sturt broke the streak of away teams winning by holding on for a thrilling three-point win over Norwood after being 16 points up at three quarter time.
