Now that I've finished paraphrasing tossers its on to a proper summation...

I thought it was a great game of football to watch, obviously winning so comprehensively helps that enormously. This is the first time Sturt has come out to play the whole season and not a moment too soon. Central had an opportunity to put Sturt to the sword pre-game and put our top three hopes and possibly finals hopes under serious pressure. Alternately, Sturt needed to get something out of this game to prove to themselves more than anyone else, that we remain the real deal.

For me, Sturt just KO'd Central with 30 minutes of sensational football in the opening term. We banged 4 goals on the board before Central got its first major and to be up by 26 points at quarter time was a fair reflection of the game. It was good, direct football, using the open spaces to our advantage, making Central run and run and run. The second term was a chance for Central to get back in it, but we put the first two on the board and extended the lead to 39 points at half-time.

Only risk now was whether we'd go defensive and cough up the lead...

Well we tried to do that, we tried to give Central a chance. I was spewing, we seem to go defensive or safe too much in the first 15 minutes, but thankfully we were able to hold the Dogs to a couple of goals and eventually finish the term even.

Final term was a good finish for us, we rammed home the advantage and got percentage in the end. Buckets was kept quiet and I thought that was a major reason why we won. The Dogs were just not on the ball in the first half, lots of mistakes, while we had few and ran free and just made them chase. Second half was more even until the game was gone, when Sturt was able to stick the knife in and twist it a bit.

For Central, who cares, one early season loss does not make any difference to them.

For Sturt, back on track, just need to keep that up, as we've already seen them fall back to crap football a week after a good win.

It's amazing what good hard tackling and no overuse of the handball can result in. The delivery into the F50 was outstanding today, makes it all the more confusing what the hell they were trying to do last week.
Message to Jaensch, that's how you play football, so listen to Normo and disregard anything at Adelaide.

Norman might find it a bit hard to communicate to him next time he plays football.

Are you serious?

Were you even at the game? Geez I thought Central got more than their fair share... they had a run on at one point in the third quarter I think it was when they must have got 8 out of 10 or something. Certainly don't agree we had a free run from the men in white...

Sturt were good, really good. Chambers was on fire in the first quarter, and amazingly Centrals weren't doing anything to control him!

Centrals were generally terrible. Bar a brief period either side of half time they were simply smashed. Very disappointing effort at home.
Still early in the season and they've bounced back before, and I'd expect them to bounce back next week.

I reckon I (unfortunately) know the answer to that.
Round 2, 2000 - after defeating you lot in a hot Round 1, a tired and leg weary Dogs were pumped by dual premiers Port Magpies by 78 points in Round 2. Port had the 8 days break, we the 6, and the season started early in that year due to the Olympics (was early March from memory).

I say 'unfortunate' because I picked a tough day to commence membership with the club!

Pretty much totally agree. Was just one of those days for us.
The stat that counts most, by a MILE, was clearances. SMASHED!

In terms of the season that won't hurt the doggies too much, but means a lot for us, getting our season kick started as CSB mentioned. Nothing to get cocky about but a sensational win nonetheless. Well done lads!

BTW as for Sturt getting favours from the umps, that statement can only be ironic surely.

Was at the game and thought the umpiring was excellent in the first half - probably best I'd seen this year.

That all changed after half time and the umpires were totally opposite after half time and paid alot of tiggy-touchwood frees.

Crap umpiring for both teams imo after half time.

Agreed zippy. Great win, but this can only be considered a launching pad for better things. Beating Central by that much in the minor round counts for nothing later in the year. There are plenty of examples of Central being crap at this time of year. Well done on your last minute bet on the Doubles Blues too zippy :D Wish I'd done the same. Like you, I had a funny feeling about this game all week.

Fantastic captains game from Sheeds and other solid contributors included Crane (how about those clearances!), Gum, Giles, Chambo, McIntyre, Bowen, Bratton, Jaensch, Vassal, Fittock, Cubillo, Nelson, McGlone and Wark.

Wonderful spirit showed by the entire team after Giles booted his major...and I thought Buckets' influence was (for a change) very restricted.

Great win Blues! But MUST make it stick next Fri night against the Legs...Will we get Macca back? Did anyone see the 2s?
Apparently we won the ressies by 40 pts, no thanks to the scoreboard attendant who must have taken the scores down just 3 mins after the final siren! BOOOO! In addition, the pies were allegedly crap, the hotdogs were completelt f*kn awful and the number of deck chairs on the western wing...well...perhaps they should make a designated "standing only" area at HHO and cram all the deck chairs into some other corner. I hate sitting down at the footy...

(FWIW, I thought Gowans looked old, slow and a genuinely useless, grumpy old man today)

Wow, some of you guys don't learn. Glad you've updated it for 2010, saves going back to some of the posts after the Dogs got thrashed by the Blues at Unley last year.

Also one of the differences from last year, is early last year we weren't missing about six players.
A very good win to Sturt (though) not unexpected.
