Anyone else miss the Adelaide Oval?

Postby NFC » Tue Apr 20, 2010 1:24 am

Boy I miss it. I used to love attending the 2-3 games Norwood played there every year.

Such a beautiful ground, excellent for footy, and some of the most memorable matches I've attended were played at the AO.

When the construction is complete, will it once again be used for minor round SANFL games? I sure hope so, it'd be such a shame to not put it to use.

I actually miss the John Creswell Stand. Crowd noise used to thunder out of that. It was pretty steep and could seat many people. You could feel the history of ground in that stand, not sure when it was built but it was easy to summon images of the 1940's to mind when I sat in it.
All gone, gone, gone.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Yep, miss Friday night games too. SANFL future games will depend on the new stadium saga obviously but if the AO re-development doesn't go ahead then I don't know what else the SACA would have there.

Always loved watching football there, only problem is the SACA have no idea how to host football but that is not a gripe with the oval itself which has been a sensational venue to watch footy at.

A schnitty at the Queen's Head before the game. Standing on the hill surrounded by atmosphere. Old Southwark Stout in plastic cups. Catching the train home afterwards.

Yeah, I miss it.

Unfortunately the political football game being played about the ground will result in much of the atmosphere being destroyed. The ground will be sterilised for the sake of a few populist votes.

Was only thinking about the the other day .. I miss footy at Adelaide Oval too.

Easy to get to, and great for a social night out with various watering holes nearby for before and after the game.

And of course the Oval itself is superb.

Have always loved Adelaide Oval when its got a good crowd in, I think its the perfect venue for an SANFL double header when they get around to programming them!

I love Friday night footy at Adelaide Oval starting from pre-match beers at the Queen's Head or Cathedral, usually a decent atmosphere on the Hill too and I've seen some ripper games there.

I'd rather go to suburban night games at the Parade or the Bay or Richmond - Adelaide Oval CAN have a great atmos if it's a blockbuster game on a still night but it can feel like a big, cold, empty dud with even a medium sized crowd or swirly conditions. And aside from the game itself, it's a crap view, with crap beer in crap cups (when you can get it), crap parking, crap food queues. Looking forward to the upgrade.

Yeah, but let's face it, they always ran a distant second to the Gummi Bears.
