Calling all CDFC and other SANFL supporters

No doubt we are all familiar with the tensions that have existed between councillors from the City of Unley and the Sturt Football Club and how Sturt have dealt with this issue with people power in the past, well here is a similar situation brewing between the City of Playford and supporters of the Central District Football Club! - So show your support and give them hell!

I think the Gaza Strip would be more appropriate.

How is this issue similar to Sturt's Unley council problems?

Fair point.

Given that these roads were named after two famous institutions, and that Sturt's "double blue" on-field identity is a direct result, I'd imagine the issue is not likely to arise any time soon.

From '94 to '98 CDFC had a "fanzine", Brendan Maguire is playing quite well. A special edition was released last year with the "Poms to Premiers 50th Anniversary" book. This special issue contained an article on the recognition of our premiership players with the suggestion that Elizabeth be renamed after dual premiership player Damien Hicks........Hicksville :)

Bloody council knocked this back as well !!!!

If the council is so keen to retain our heritage can we have Windsor Green back, the cannon that was in the middle of it, and the fountain alongside it......always looked nice and just think it's preferable to the BLOODY GREAT CAR PARK that took its place....

possibly showing my age now

What you are missing Pseudo--

"Earlier this month, a group of Centrals supporters attempted to rename the stretch of Goodman Road outside Hamra Homes Oval Bulldog Boulevarde in honour of Centrals 8 premierships in 10 years.

Sadly the Playford Council voted against the idea 1:12, claiming "It's not about the football team. It's about one of the oldest parts of my city, Elizabeth... and it has to remain as it is." (obviously didn't think of that when they chose to rename Elizabeth Fields and West Davoren Park in the 90's).

So it looks like the council may need a little persuasion to rename that particular section of Goodman Road. Ideally, we'd send the Gowans twins around to each councillor's place, guaranteeing a unaminious vote in favour of the change (lol). However, if Facebook can see the return of Hey Hey it's Saturday and the Skyshow (amongst others), then I'm sure Facebook can help get what us Centrals supporters want - a street named after our legendary club.

So lets fire up like it's the first Sunday in October and drum up some support for this."

Is it an especially wide stretch of road? because it might be that the council are just being pedantic as Boulevard has no 'e' on the end and means 'a wide street, typically lined with trees' (OED)

Thanks Kahuna.

Bit of a non-issue methinks... nevertheless other councils have seen fit to name streets with a football theme. I know there is a Carey Close in Glenelg North named after the Great Man Himself, although this was a new road rather than a renamed existing road.

Perhaps just stack the elections with CDFC members at the next Playford election. 8)

If the worst problems we'd had with with council over the years was not letting us rename a street we'd be going OK.

What a non issue.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
