Changes to the fixture - Rounds 8 & 10

Postby Big Phil » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:52 am

From the SANFL web site, there are a couple of changes to the fixture in the next few months.

Great that there will be another night game at Richmond, another game of SANFL I can attend :D

So the moving of the Round 8, West Adelaide Vs Port Adelaide match-up to Friday night, allows Westies to capitalise on a potential financial windfall. Good on 'em.

As turn about is fair play, I now would find it reasonable to expect an edict to Glenelg to swap their home game with Port Adelaide, allowing the Magpies to join the Power in a Commemorative, 140 year, Double-Header celebration at Football Park.

But much like the farcical Jeremy Clayton suspension, I won't be holding my breath for any favours.

So a West Adelaide home game on Saturday becomes a West Adelaide home game on a Friday.....

therefore.....

a Glenelg home game should be moved to a neutral ground....

Pythonesque logic

Then again, if the Magpies were prepared to compensate Glenelg financially.........

And in this hyopthetical suggestion what would Glenelg
a) - Season Ticket Holders
b) - General Members
c) - Supporters
actually pay to watch their SANFL team play an SANFL game as an AFL curtain raiser?

Only that can be fair in the mind of a Port supporter.

Both clubs can't be 140 years old.

Hmm, let's see, Port Adelaide had agreed to move their game from Alberton to the Bay later in the year and include Glenelg in a profit split from the Double -header.

So it doesn't effect the GFC Season ticket holders, Glenelg end up with a neutral venue, a home game and a financial windfall, simply for being reasonable human beings.

But Noooo!

If it doesn't effect the GFC season ticket holders, I assume they will be given free entry to that game.

I don't think so.

I would have thought that with 140 years of history, that would be based on remembering things. Maybe thats what Glenelg are doing.

And if Port had ANY type of administration skills they would've tried to start organising this a few years ago.

Exactly, why didnt they try and organise this before the fixture was completed? not a month before the game, once again your administration fails you and you try to blame others...

What part of Glenelg supporters get a home game later in the year and don't have to travel to Alberton (not that they do anyway) don't you understand.

As for changing the fixture PRE season, the West - Port game was only changed last week. What's the difference? Oh, that's right, it's Port Adelaide.

Blame Port for something Port were too incompetent to work out earlier?
Shame on you, I blame the other 8 clubs.

Answer my question BR...they have had 140 years to organise it, try to scramble a month before it and Glenelg are supposed to agree? Whos fault is it really?

Fair to say the 2 clubs haven't always been on the same page as far as acknowledging each other. But with the coming together this year, I'm certain someone thought it was a good idea and put it to the respective Boards.

Given the benefits to ALL parties, it shouldn't have been too hard to organise within a 2+ month timespan.
