SANFL on DVD...

Apart from recent seasons games, what classic SANFL stuff is out there on DVD???

I have been told that you can get pre-2003 season GFs and other matches on DVD from the ABC but the quality isn't as good as 2003 onwards because it (obviously) wasn't recorded in digital.

I've also been told that the 1973 GF is available on DVD but I don't know if my workmate was bullsh!tting me or not, as he told me a story that he had a female friend, who rang up the Glenelg Footy Club wanting to buy it but was told that it was unavailable/sold out. So the story goes that she rang up the North Adelaide Footy Club instead asking about it and had a rather perplexed elderly gentleman reply back that "with all due respect, we're not likely to keep a copy of that match for obvious reasons". :?

That game, plus the 85/86 Grand Finals, and the 1975 49.23 game are available on DVD from the GFC. Quality of the footage (notably on the '75 game) is variable. There is also "The Tigers Of Old" on DVD which contains some snippets of classic footage involving GFC.

You never know.

I went to the ABC building at Collinswood late last year to pick up last years GF on DVD and while I was there I asked about the 2000 and 2001 SANFL GFs (which are available) and the lady at the counter whipped out a folder and showed me a list of what footy stuff is available (I remember that the list was atleast an A4 page). From memory there's the Grand Finals from the 70s-00s, plus some minor round footage and some state matches as well. Some stuff that is listed has only some parts available.

I think it would be a good idea to get something going so we can get this stuff catalogued and preserved. I don't want it to get to the stage like the moon landing footage or Spartacus movie where they couldn't find the original movie reels.

I think I feel a conspiracy theory coming on... The 1990 Grand Final never happened, the video footage was all faked, you can tell by the way the shadows fall on a day that was supposed to be overcast, etc...

You'd think there would more stuff available considering footage that been shown lately on TV. Such as the halftime segment hosted by Phil Cleary on the ABC from a few years ago...Channel 31s SANFL GF marathon from a few years back and the stuff shown on Simply Footy on Channel 10.

ABC2 used to have a show called Late Night Legends on hosted by Rex Marinos

There was a few SANFL GF's shown on that. Stuff from the 70's and even 10-15 minute highlight packages from the 60's

Yep, the same one. He's done a bit of sports stuff over the last 15 years on the ABC.
