Rd 3 - Central v West @ Elizabeth (Sat 10/4)

This should be a very good game of footy out at Hamra Homes Oval this Saturday...

Despite going down to the Bays on the weekend, the Bloods have shown their improvement so far and will no doubt be keen to atone for the loss to the Tigers...

The Dogs will be fresh coming off the bye and will possibly welcolme back some experienced players into the line up to strengthen the line-up that just beat Port...

If he plays, it will be Chris Gowans' 200th League appearance which is a magnificent effort so congratulations to him...

Will be a close game, my tip - the Dogs by 5 points

Especially if Bloods skipper Ryan Ferguson doesn't play, which sounds likely after the injuries sustained from the Glenelg game, as posted by R&B below...

Confirmation that Ryan Ferguson will miss this game against the Dogs and possibly a month of footy all up after being hospitalised.

Will be an interesting selection week at Centrals.

Chris Gowans is fit and ready to go but has only played two quaters in trial games so does he come straight back into the league side. James Gowans suffered a pretty bad corky against Port so unsure whether he will be available or not.

The Dogs may also have Jonathon Griffin to slip into the 21 and Brad Symes situation is a bit of an unknown.

Richard Cochrane will more than likely spend another week in the reserves to gain match fitness. While the likes of Scott Dutschke, James Boyd, Justin Hardy and Heath Lawry are back for selection.

For my mine this will be the team to take on West

F: Sansbury Havelberg Callinan
HF: Henderson M.Westoff C.Gowans
C: O'Hara J.Gowans Spurr
HB: Williams Hardy Nash
FB: Hayes Hynes Goodrem
R: Griffin Thomas Habel

INT: MacKenzie Switala Jenner

INS
C.Gowans
J.Griffin
J.Hardy

OUTS
C.Milne
A.Duncan
L.Westoff

This game surprisingly will be difficult to tip.

Central have shown no indication they are getting out of 1st gear yet.

Will be an interesting game to see where West sit.

If they're within 3 goals at the final siren, they'll have done well.

My thoughts exactly. If we get that close to Centrals at Elizabeth i think it will show we ain't that far away.

Going to be extremely hard IMO. No Fergy is a massive massive lost. Ably replaced by chris chubb IMO, but his leadership, courage and effect on the team is irreplaceable!

How has Chris Chubb's form in the reserves been ? Does it warrant league selection as yet ?

I would have thought that Adam Hartlett back in the side (if he is over the calf compliant that saw him withdraw* from the side for the Glenelg game) would be a better fit than Chubb.

Or even bring Daniel Webb back into the side, who has been kicking goals in the reserves, to play the CHF role, thus shifting Ryan Willits to CHB, where I have seen him play some good footy in the past.

Just IMHO though, I'm not a Westies supporter...

Chubby is a long way off league footy at the moment imho. The loss of fergy isn't as big a loss as it would have been in the last couple of years, as we now have guys like Hartlett (if fit), Pettigrew and even Willits and Borholm who are more than capable of filling that position.

With Paul Stewart out of the Power line-up i would think Pettigrew will probably go back into their side especially considering his versatilty and the fact he played pretty well for use on the weekend.

Exactly. Key players injured or underdone. Thats what I mean by being still in 1st gear. I'm just suggesting that there may be a slow start for the dogs this year like 2005.

I should have been clearer. I did not mean chubb to replace Fergy for this game or the next month. I was more thinking if it were to happen in the latter stages of the year, the courage and leadership that Fergy has is similar to what Chubb used to have.

This week, i would think Harltett will be fine to play, along with the inclusion of Webb as i think Pettigrew will go. Think they will just play Silvester and Hartlett as the taller options and move Willits down back maybe if they need a third tall. Kurt Thompson may come in as a third tall. Bit too early for Barbers return IIRC??

Not only do we lose Fergy, i believe Silvester will be missing from this game with a wedding back in Victoria!! Poor timing with Fergys injury!

West are very capable of winning this one and will just ease ahead in a tight one.
