Sorry if this topics been done before but I'd like to see everyones thoughts on footy on Good Friday.
For me, I'm not a great fan of it during the day but I wouldn't mind seeing it at night.
I'm sure you would get a good crowd if say you had Port v Norwood at Adelaide Oval on Friday night or any of the teams with high drawing power.

I'd enjoy it
Seeing I got up and went fishing at West Lakes and no one else was.I couldn't think where everyone else was surely not everyone went away or to church .

It'd get me away from playing computer games all day.

I am all for it
I remember a few years ago when I was living in Canberra the ACTAFL had a game on good friday at Manuka Oval
I went along and there was quite a good turn out from memory

Think it's time that the AFL and SANFL got with the times, reckon you would get bumper crowds, like what else is there to do Good Friday, as Wedgie said, play computer games, bring it on I say

I'm for it but the alcohol laws will need to be changed. Wont be able to get a beer at the game unless they serve you a meal with it

Just because the NRL do it, we have to follow suit. It's just like the AFL with ANZAC Day having the same 2 teams playing each other at least we have different teams each year.

Fishing is one thing, but footy is another.

Footy should definatly be played on good friday, imagine Sturt vs Central at Unley during the day followed by a Norwood vs Port game at the Parade tonight would be magnificant crowds imo.

with the AFL chosing not to play, i think the SANFL should Jump on it, i know Heals would like to play the Doggies at Elizabeth and at Prospect every year, Swapping home games

just pointing out that there is another league out there and many others who play on Good Friday

Not a prob, i remember years ago when they bought in the meal deals in some clubs, a packet of chips or nuts and that was a meal

Even so, we shouldn't follow suit just because there are other leagues or games played on Good Friday.

There was a Sunday session at Lennies a few years back where there was a table with some finger food and that was technically a meal.

I might be singular in this but I really see no reason why we can't have one day in the season that we don't have football and allow those that do hold various beliefs about the sacred nature of the day, to observe these. I've never been a believer in Good Friday football and never will be, no matter how passionate I am about the game and the SANFL.

fair enough ME, we can agree to disagree
I think Good Friday footy would be brilliant and this weekends games could all draw maximum attendances with the right fixtures.
If people choose not to go to the footy then that is their choice, if people want the footy - then why not??

that's true (lennies) even if i wasn't going out, i'd wander over get a plate of ham, chicken & salad etc feed my face & go home (i had a vip pass to get in) so it was always a complete free feed
seeing cinemas & the like are 'allowed' to open on the friday night i can't see why a game couldn't be played, even if they advertise it as an alcohol free family night & push the message that you don't have to drink at the footy......i think if a game was played in a central location (adelaide oval) you would get a huge crowd, maybe even have a double header & again set the path for the afl to then go with it seeing it is successful just like it happened with sunday games many many years ago among other initatives that they followed up with

That is an interesting idea, perhaps being Easter with the usual concerns about the Road Toll, the SANFL could make the entire round an Alcohol Free one?
