norwood simply have no forwards, so many times they would stop & prop going forward as there was no one for them presenting, it was left to simon phillips to kick 3 of their 5 goals, while they can't rely on walker i think they should fly in vlatko to have at least a forward presence or it is going to be a long long year for them, i saw last nights game & todays & i think the bays would have to improve to beat west presuming that same west team turns up because as we know ''a week is a long time in footy'' & i think south must be a huge chance to beat norwood next week

Norwood cant blame the surface - it was great.
Can't blame the wind - it wasn't really present after the first quarter.
Cant blame the coach - he's new.

Simply didn't have the cattle or the ability to execute much at all.

i would think about 5,000...sjabc thought 4,500-5,000 & 5rph thought ''about 5,000'' but officially haven't heard anything

Beautiful weather, great crowd (5k I'd say), but Norwood are terrible. Can't blame Bassett, inherited a shocking team.

Got down to the game at half time. Glenelg were alot more impressive then I expected them to be. They are still very disciplined with opposition kickouts and cause alot of turnovers on their 50m line which they capitalise on.

PS, will post pics of the game soon in the photo album forum.

Good to have footy back at the Bay... solid performance by the Bays against questionable opposition, some great examples of team footy which is good to see, Toddy kicking 6.1 was a nice surprise, the on he missed was the easiest of the lot!

Long season ahead but a pleasing start

Knob..

Glenelg too good, Norwood with room for improvement to say the least. Sigh.

A solid effort by the boys. Didn't tell us a lot against Norwood really, they couldn't take a trick even when they did manage to break the defence down.

Good to see Rudolph back, we were worried Sammy might have become Samson after the haircut. Hope he has a cracker of a year.

Big Grima bustling around and snapping a couple around the corner looked great, if he can play with that sort of confidence more often that not we'll be looking good. Just like that oval is looking good...that is the greenest it's been ever.

I thought the crowd was around 5,000 like some others.

A bit hard to gauge that performance today as Norwood were so woeful. A good sign is that the Bays seemed to be much more effective up forward and won by a good margin, something they really struggled with last year.

B Kane, Mills, Panozzo and T Grima played well, supported by many others. Mules and Kirk were late withdrawals.

Really struggling to name a norwood player to stand up.

I went to watch the game but found myself much more interested in counting the crowd numbers. I made it 4,814 but couldn't remember if I counted myself or not. So I counted everyone again and made it 4,312 at the 28 min mark of the last quarter, including the scoreboard attendant.

Actually, I did wonder myself what the nos were but it was hard to tell when you dont go there more than a couple of times a year. Plenty of people on the grandstand side, but perhaps more telling were the good numbers on the outer wing - would that be a fair observation?

As for Norwood, I thought Phillips, Stopp and Rowe were up there.

Yes good numbers, more than usual on the outer wing, mainly cause being overcast there was no sun to look into IMO. The grandstand side was a little low on numbers for a 5K crowd but made up for in the outer side

Lord help us. Look like another bad season. 7th will actually be a good result.

Pi$$ed off. Bit by Norwood's performance but more by a non-footy issue.

I now barrack for 2 teams. Norwood and whoever plays the bays.

Why is making a racial slur at a player funny? Apparently it was for a bunch of Glenelg supporters behind us today.

Catering was good :D

When do trials finish? :?

Well done to the Bays, did what they had to do and I think they kept quite a bit in reserve ... Think Norwood can improve their efficency (Bays were excellent in that aspect today), and I ******* hope like hell we can otherwise she's a long and embarrassing season ahead.

I know I copped plenty last season for mentioning the umpires (but bear with me), has there been changes to interpretations in the off-season? Thought the game was a little over-umpired at times with Arm-chopping and in-the-back offences - not toward any team in particular, just thought a little stop start.

Players with the experience and ability of Matty Bode can't be purchased btw, if he can stay on the park he is a huge in for the Bays.

Oh and I must say, whilst Im the first to think mongrel and aggression has a place in footy, from my angle Andy Lee deserves a fair holiday for that hit - Dont rate that bullshit at all!!!
