Re: Why I love North

Buried away in today's article by Warren Partland is this little gem:

"The Roosters.... have spent plenty of coin to build this team...".

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 5846565384

Now what could Warren mean? The salary cap is the same for all clubs and North recently only had a ''technical breach'', so what is the inference here?

Surely Warren isn't suggesting that a technical breach is just the tip of the iceberg ;)

A similar remark was made on 5AA on Saturday morning, along the lines of 4 goals being a poor return 'considering North's salary cap' or words to that effect. Obviously North's salary cap is the same as everyone else's but I thought the implication was pretty clear.

Well what they are meant to spend is the same as everyone else, technically speaking.

It's an interesting comment considering we're all working with the same salary cap, in theory everyone is spending the same.

And given that North were outbid by East Perth, with a salary cap of less than half of the SANFL, for Jason Roe.

And also given that North were out bid for Matt Davis, in particular, and Stephen Doyle, two years ago by Norwood. Sorry, that's when Norwood went miles over the salary cap.

And also also given North were out bid by the Power for Damon White .. Ohh hang on :D

Theres no way Norths top dozen players are not taking up all their salary cap ! Schwarz told me as much before he went back to Victoria . He only lobbed at Prospect because they offered the most $ , certainly not to play for Healy

Jason Roe is doing well to earn a six-figure annual pay packet.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, doesn't matter how much they allegedly spend on their football department, you can't polish a turd and the side is still crap.

Let them keep doing it I say.

That's correct, in much the same way as Norwood were unable to match the offer make to Leigh Ryswyk. The reason we went over the salary cap is an attempt to try and bid against other clubs like North who are also paying well above the salary cap. Trying to sign a player ahead of Central is nigh impossible.

Unlike Norwood though, North will never be investigated because nobody at North is likely to dob themselves in, which is the only way the SANFL will ever find out. Anyone who doesn't believe most clubs are way over the salary cap lives in fantasyland.

Meh, North got done, Norwood got done, I think all clubs but one have been done so its obvious it happens. Some have been caught going over by more than others. Time to move on though.
Christ, the post count would drop on this site if they removed it (or people would talk more about footy! lol)

Which household name did you miss out on ? Andrew Hayes, Trent Goodrem, Lee Spurr, Heath Lawry, Luke Habel, Mitch Frail ???

Didn't help us when we tried to get Grima who ended up at Glenelg, and I think we might also have been in the mix for Doyle, not sure. I'm not saying the Bays or Norwood went over their caps, just saying the dogs don't always get the players they want.

i think sturt are the only club that havent been done if there is indeed only one left....i remember a meeting a few years ago, before 05, when the president said that we didnt even have enough money to go near let alone over the cap.

We haven't either Jim, I understand our books have been looked at pretty closely in the past few years by the SANFL but so far all above board.

FWIW I don't think Centrals have recruited the big name recruits to go over the cap recently either.

It's obviously a matter of opinion but I can't see how something crucial to the integrity of the competition can be boring.

Has anyone won a flag by cheating over the cap? When they do come and see me....

My understanding is the SANFL audit this very closely, I have faith they do their best to find any indiscretions.

When someone exceeds the cap significantly and gains an unfair advantage from it Ill be happy to discuss it, but the continued "they must be over the cap" crap is simply boring, almost as bad as people complaining about the umps
