Central vs North Adelaide trial game @ Elizabeth 20/3

This game will be extremley important for the Dogs to see who will play key defensive roles for their round 1 clash. With Hardy going down the dogs are left with virtually no key defenders, this game will give Lairdy the chance to trial M.Westoff as a CHB/FB as well as N.White's last chance to impress selectors. I would expect McKenzie to play in defence as well with Hannath and Milne carrying the ruck duties.

Centrals will more than likely welcome back C.Gowans, J.Gowans, J.Boyd, R.Cochrane, J.Nash, R.Henderson and most importantly D.Havelberg into the side, i would expect Ian Callinan will be rested from this game, he has been brilliant in his first two trials.

Personally i expect North to win the game very comfortably but from a Dogs point of view most importance will be who plays at CHB/FB and how they perform.

I would expect Centrals to win easily. I'm guessing North will rest a few first choices this week, and the Dogs will be keen to play some good footy before the season proper.

Sorry, my mistake. Only had the two reports to go by. Big Phil's and mickyj's. One was too long and the other was full of excuses. ;) <--------<<<<

Still think the Dogs easily.

Teams are still trying out their hopefuls and getting some match fitness into their regulars. It won't be until the season starts that winning matters much.

I'm hoping that some of the players I saw do nothing much last week can show something this week.

I do like that Central line-up definatly can see the round 1 line up taking shape, still no Gowans which is a bit of a worry would mean Chris has only played 2 quarters and James hasn't played a game yet.
I think this side will line up like this

F: M.Westoff Frail Callinan
HF: Jenner Henderson Sansbury
C: O'Hara Spurr L.Westoff
HB: Williams Havelberg Nash
B: Goodrem Hayes Switala
R: Milne Thomas Habel

INT Hannath Dunne Gunston
Vater Hynes

Thats a half decent forward line.

We could also get Stewart back depending on how the Power see him for round 1 so that will make the selection for the West game interesting? Play him and use Gill as a roaming half fwd flanker?

And your favourite opposition player is being rested too!

Seriously not a bad line-up and we are still missing quite a few: Ackland, Younie, Wright all recovering from injury and yet to play a game so far this year. Interesting to see Eljay Connors also being rested again after his impressive display against Nwd but he would be an almost cert for round 1 along with Cunningham. Sporn most likely a cert for round 1?

As for the possibles currently out with injuries: Whyman (Again, looking like season 2009 all over again), Ivens, W. Thompson, H. White.

Add the possible AFL players in Sloane and Armstrong who could come back then it makes for an interesting selection process for Round 1. Good small mid size depth at North, still think we are 1 big man short to cover in defence but that at present is being covered by having Davis available from the Crows. I have been impressed by Pollock in the 2's so far and he looms as getting a chance at some stage if we get injuries to a key defender.

With the tall forward depth would Healy be looking at maybe playing Gill as a FB/CHB considering they have full use of Gill now and there has always been question marks over his kicking at goals.

Didn't Gill get recruited as a FB from Pt Melb, Healy does have a slightly more defensive attitude and i think would be looking at securing the defence first up, i doubt Gill would be outmarked in defence very often either.

I agree, otr, that is a very strong looking side.

How far off is Ackland?

I'd imagine Thring, Motlop and Potts would make way for some of those mentioned?

Correct WHUFC re Gilly was a backman when we recruited him. Healy intends to play him play him as a roaming 3rd tall fwd as he has the athletic ability and capacity to run all day plus at 6'4 and with a big leap he is hard to match up on plus I think he plays better when he can "do his own" thing to a degree as we all know he is capable of the unpredictable!

He did play a few games at CHB last year when he returned from injury early on and he looked lost up forward after a good first up game against Centrals. I blame the Crows! Healy swapped him and White against West at Richmond and White basically got us back in the game. Gill played ok at CHB and was getting better each week until he got caught fart arsing around in the backline at Eliz and got nailed in that tackle from Havelberg and broke his ankle.

I would rather seem Gill up fwd and White at CHB.

Not sure - he was aiming for Round 3 against Port at Alberton? Rucks are ok with Budgie and James Craig, who is very impressive and IMHO if Ackland was fit, Budgie should be the one who misses out!

Jimmy Craig is going to be a ripper, he hardly lost a tap last week at the centre bounces and has put on heaps of bulk, he's ready to go, very very exciting prospect and I predict a big year for him.

Has Ryan Porter left the club or injured?

Henderson and Gunston, both big talents. Hendo is gonna dominate matches this year!
