Thanks Mouse

Postby milbo » Wed Feb 17, 2010 7:19 pm

I'd personally like to say a very large Thank you to Brett Backwell for his contribution to the GFC.

In my opinion Brett you leave the club a champion of it. A club B & F, A Fos WIlliams medal and of course the one thing Glenelg got to cheer during the darker years the 2006 Magarey medal.

Brett gave his heart and soul to the GFC. As I have previously stated I watched this bloke convincing medico's week in week out through 06 and 07 that he was right to play.. carrying injuries that other blokes wouldnt even think of carrying.

When the GFC needed someone to give an interview... Mouse stepped up. When there was club promo events... Mouse was there. Members loved him not only for his on field tenacity and passion but mainly for his affable and friendly manner off it. The number of kids wandering around in the #2 is a testament to how much he was loved.

He was our shining light through some very dark years. A leader. A bloke who despite his size (and despite having a finger amputated to be able to continue playing the game he loved) would stand up week in week out.

I am very hopeful every Glenelg supporter will express their thanks for what mouse gave to us and respect his decision rather than admonish him for it.

Thanks so much Brett. Goodluck in your final this week.

I will also miss Brett. In my dealings with him, he was respectful and appreciative I will always hold him in high regard for his assistance to our junior players. If the league were playing on a Friday or Sunday, Brett would regularly be seen at the juniors on the Saturday. He mentored many, and was a good role model for preparation, fitness and healthy living.

I really hope this one weekend of finals football turns into a few more weeks, cos unfortunately I reckon this decision will sit in your gut for a long time.
The Waratahs FC had better pull a miracle out for you Mouse! Cos anything less than the 2010 NT Premiership is going to be too little for what you've given up.

It's a pity for both him and Glenelg that his last memory of playing in a Bays jumper will be four quarters spent in Ben Nelsons pocket culminating in a shattering Preliminary Final loss......

I find your sarcastic comments on a thread of thanks to Mouse as disrespectful to a really good SANFL player who was very much loved.
I would have thought those comments could have been made elsewhere.

Geez he didn't die - he chose to terminate his own contract at Glenelg. He will still be a very good SANFL player if he decides to play on with another club!

You need an avatar of Mouse to remember that Sturt was the crudest-tackling team of last year? The rest of us simply make do with the free-kick-against stats... ;)

Nah mate. I don't need anything to remind me of last year now. What I need now is some hot chips. There are seagulls on the lawn ;)

of course your team will get free kicks when you keep on ducking and those umpires pay them. it didnt help in the prelim when the umps were awake to it.

I understand about being a one eyed fan BUT surely even the most one eyed Glenelg fans would concede that there 2009 side was the biggest bunch of head duckers seen in a very very long time in the SANFL.
