A SANFL without the Port Magpies.

Postby Dog_ger » Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:21 pm

An 8 team competition.

Sitting back, it looks like the early stages of the SANFL disappearing altogether.

What next, a 7 team comp....?

I hope we all learnt from losing West Torrens.

If we had our time over, would we have allowed an Eagles merger between 2 great clubs.

Entering the AFL, took away more than we can imaging but I think it was neccessary... :D
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

Draw a line in the sand and sign a heads of agreement to make sure no one else goes to the wall. I think we're fine because the clubs seem to be generating their own incomes at the moment. Even Norwood who were struggling are talking new facilities at the Parade.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

8 or 10 team comp would be much better for all involved, no bye means a much better SANFL IMHO.

I think 8 teams is more viable than 9 or 10.

if/when the SANFL comp becomes an 8 team comp, how many rounds should we play?

Best option IMO would be 21 rounds (play each team 3 times with 2 split rounds making a 23 week minor round). M

That's my concern with letting Port disappear. What next - when some other club can't subsidising itself with Pokies, they have to either merge or leave as well? The SANFL should be doing everything in it's power (pun) to ensure that the clubs stay afloat. Without the clubs, the SANFL dies too.

Too much paranoia i reckon if the merger does not go ahead some one will bail them out, you cannot let one of the original footy clubs in this state disappear, however 90% of their supporters jumped on the Power bandwagon and have not looked back since to see whats happening at the real Magpies. Tho i am surprised at the apathy from most of their supporters in this crisis you think by now hundreds of ex Maggy players who are well off and business people who love this club would of all chipped in by now ???? I guess when you have got two split camps it would be very tough.

A much better SANFL just because a bye is gone? :?

Is this really such a disruptive element to the SANFL season?

That's my point. I've got NO problem with handouts to be honest - because the SANFL needs the history and tradition - that's what makes the competition it is.

I hope he is.

I don't want to see any club have to fold.

I'd think a Plan B of some sort might be agreed to.

Something else to remember is that reducing from 9 team to 8, we will lose more than 1/9th of the supporter base completely. I can't see any Port supporter suddenly barracking for any other side.

I don't exactly know the machinations behind it all, but the SANFL would be derelict to let this happen to one of their clubs.
