Westies Grandstand on fire

Postby CoverKing » Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:21 am

At around 1045pm yesterday, Westies grandstand was set on fire, with damage to the medical room, the gym and its equipment and also the coaches room. Andys room is next to non existent now, the gym is damaged and the medical room is also like it was never there.

The rest of the rooms are damaged aswell by the smoke, but the grandstand structure is still in tact.

No word yet if this was an accident or not!!!

Devastating news for the bloods after the gym was only upgraded last season and with the timing off this, it could really put the bloods behind the 8 ball!!!

You'd like to think the SANFL community would get behind them and let them use their facilities while they rebuild...a bit like we did for Port Noarlunga after the tornado totally embedded glass in their oval...

Thebarton would be a good option I would say for training at least. Also the power have let Sturt use their gym at times during last years pre-season. Can't see why they couldn't do the same for West.
If it was deliberately lit I hope they catch the dickheads soon.
If it was accidental then I hope you guys get it back together as soon as you can as I would say all of us are looking forward to seeing a competitive West in 2010.
Hopefully a bit of a money boost from Round 1 will help you guys as I know alot of neutral supporters, including myself are coming down to see what Richmond is like under lights!

Tragic news. Hope it can be rebuilt quickly to minimise the disruption to the players preseason. Hope they get looked after in the mean time

Didn't the club spent a cpouple of $100 000 doing the grandstand up 2 years ago making it more OH&S compliant including electrical work???

Hopefully for Westies sake they have insurance.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes, they're well insured.

I've just been down there and it's a sad sight for all Westie's supporters. The Coach's office and the computer room are gutted. Much of the new gym equipment is destroyed or unusable and the main problem is the amount of smoke damage throughout all the rooms.

Just like our on-field performance though, we'll rise from the ashes,

All of that really sucks and I hope the SANFL and each of the clubs helps Westies get everything back how it belongs. Not what you'd want at the start of a season, or any time of course.

But I do have one nagging question...is the barbie OK?

Sad news for the WAFC.

When Woodville West Torrens merged they were given the use of Football Park as a home venue for the season until they got themselves sorted out, I think that Westies should do the same until Richmond is back up and ready. I am sure they could fairly easilly book them time in the Crows facilities so that they have some gym facilities to use.

If Richmond isnt ready for the round one Friday night match against North then I do think it should be moved to Football Park instead as well as Westies other home matches until they are ready to go.

Woodville West Torrens merged Torrens had already moved from Thebarton to Footy Park for home games

terrible news for that to happen to any club, business or to a family house, i hope that it was an accident (ie electrical fault etc) however if it was deliberately lit, i hope they catch the low life pr1cks........now if the sanfl 'help' port surely they would have to 'help' west cover the damage done
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Here is a 11:15am report from the Advertiser website:
AdelaideNow wrote:A BLAZE which damaged West Adelaide Football Club's grandstand and gym overnight is supected to have been started by an electrical fault.

The $200,000 fire at Richmond Oval will be a body blow to the Bloods.

There was extensive damage to the SANFL club's grandstand roof and gym, and smoke damage to the coach's office, changeroom and computer room.

All are in the same structure alongside the Milner Rd oval.

Thirty MFS firefighters took about 30 minutes to control the blaze, which ignited about 11pm.

Investigators are yet to release the fire cause.
