In December, the club unveiled a $30,000 upgrade of its gymnasium. to include new equipment, flooring and ventilation.

Mr Allen said the canteen, changerooms and coach’s boxes also needed work.

“We’ve got to sit down at our next finance and facilities meeting and work out a plan of what we’re going to do and what order it’s in.”

Unley CEO Ray Pincombe said the council had a good relationship with the Double Blues and supported the club staying at Unley.

“We just signed an agreement with them for match days that won’t expire until 2016 and there’s very strong support in our community for Sturt Football Club to remain at Unley,” he said.

What were (if any) the options?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

The SACA were going to enter into a partnership with Sturt where our club rooms, training facility and admin would be housed at AO if Unley wasn't to be a long term option.

Even if Sturt were still looking at it, the proposal to play AFL games there kills it. It's a waste playing SANFL minor round games in a 50000 seat stadium.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Rather ironic Luke Norman was complaining last season about the coaches box at Elizabeth yet Sturt admit their coaches boxes needs improving :D.

Nonetheless good on Sturt for securing their long term future at Unley.

Luke was complaining about the lighting and not being able to see from the coaches box, not about the box itself.

Well done Sturt thats great news for the SANFL.

While i think the ground is a poo hole, it is grounds like Unley with all their history and quirkiness that make the SANFL unique.

Plus we can continue to go to the Earl of Leicester before games, great pub.

What about to Marion FC on Sturt Rd, the old Sturt footy club?

They certainly have the facilities for a SANFL club.

The organisation that evolved into the Marion Football Club was originally formed in 1891, and is one of the oldest football clubs inSouth Australia. Originally known as the Sturt Football Club, the club changed their name to Marion in the 1950’s. The club is currently affiliated with the powerful Southern Football league who is in turn affiliated with the South Australian National Football League.
The club colours are green and gold, and their emblem is the Ram which was
adopted in the 1970's.

The Marion Football Club has had an eventful history that has produced a total of 8 senior premierships; two in the Mid Southern League (1921, 1926);
one in the Glenelg Districts Football Association (1931), three in the Glenelg South West Football Association (1951, 1957, 1958); one in the
Glenelg South Adelaide Football Association (1967); and most recently in the Southern Football League (2000).

During the war years Marion joined with the Brighton club to form Sturt Brighton.
The combined team were premiers in 1944 and 1945.(Neil Stallard 2009).

this is the proper history of the Sturt Football Club

http://www.sturtfc.com.au/history/sturt ... ub-history

1901 - The Sturt Cricket Club decides to form a football club in the Unley area. Their application to join the South Australian Football Association is successful and the Sturt Football Club is born. The club decides to use the two shades of blue of Oxford and Cambridge Universities as Unley Oval is situated on the junction of Oxford Terrace and Cambridge Terrace, hence the nickname of "Double Blues".

The history you are talking about for Marion previously being known as Sturt is because the club is in the Sturt suburb.
