First to all at SA Footy - Happy New Year and good luck for the coming season of SANFL footy – looks as if it will be a very close and interesting competition.

The first trial between South Adelaide and the Eagles is not that far away and I’m sure we’ll all enjoy the return of footy.

Preseason training has recommenced after the Christmas New Year break and some of the boys are planning to go in the community ride with the Tour Down Under – I’m sure they will come through with flying colours.

It has been terrific to see the loyal band of members at training, most of whom are also regulars on safooty. I think they would agree with me that the boys are looking particular good on the track at this early stage. Training continues at Thebarton Oval Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Main night for the “members/safooty discussion group” is Wednesday.

A reminder that the Annual General Meeting of both the Eagles Club Inc. and the Woodville West Torrens Football Club Inc. will be held at The Eagles Club, Oval Avenue, Woodville South on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 at 7.30pm and 8.00pm respectively. All members welcome and encouraged to attend and you can renew memberships or join on the night.

When nominations closed we had received 5 for the 3 board positions. Voting will occur on the day of the AGM at the club offices at Woodville Oval between 9am and 7pm or members may request a postal vote by contacting club 8347 2444. Details were in last Thursday’s Advertiser and will be on the website shortly as will the candidates’ statements which are also on display at the club.

The club has recommenced the Thursday Night Members Draw – was $100 last Thursday but wasn’t won so is $150 this coming Thursday. Our Woodville Oval Bistro is open for meals on Thursday and Friday nights and at $8.50 are great value. We have the folk from our Port Road Bar and Bistro running the kitchen now and I and my wife certainly enjoyed our meals last week and even won a meat tray!
All welcome to come along on Thursday and or Friday to join in the fun – open from 4:30pm, meat tray raffles and members draw from 6:30pm.

Membership is really going well and we are ahead in numbers as for the same time last year – last count I had was over 1000.

The membership packages are outstanding value with great new benefits. I know the new magnet and the individually named member’s card have been well received. I am really looking forward to getting my members only scarf plus showing my card to enjoy the discounts for merchandise and meals. For $55 you can’t do better and you get even more value by adding a home match or season ticket to your membership.

Make sure you join up your children and or grandchildren – if 12 or under then they become members for free. Mark McKenzie wants as many youngsters on board join now for free to get your Macka’s pack. Young Eagle for those 13 to 18 is just $15.
You can join on line and check out all the benefits you receive at the WWTFC official website.

I’m really looking forward to a great year of footy from our boys and hope all Eagle fans get on board now by buying a membership.

Here are the details for Lindsay.
He is a worthy candidate and will listen and represent the members.

Woodville West Torrens Football Club Inc. Board Nomination 2010

BLIGHT, Lindsay MBA, ANIA, SA Fin, JP Age 41

I am a passionate Eagles member, lifetime supporter & past underage player for West Torrens, who seeks the opportunity and challenge of serving the members of the Club in our collective quest for future success both on and off the field.

I will ensure the club takes up the challenge to expand our ageing membership and supporter base, so we remain relevant for future generations to enjoy.

Employed in numerous senior roles for the last 17 years in the finance sector, my experience coupled with my qualifications Master of Business Administration (specialising in Sports Admin), Banking & Finance and Accountancy will enable me to apply my commercial experience with my enthusiasm and passion for the ongoing success of the Eagles.

In terms of board experience, I have held positions with a number of sporting bodies and professional organisations, and currently serve as Treasurer for a not profit community organisation, Skills Training & Resources Inc. and have been a member’s representative for the last 6 years with the Adelaide Football Club.

If elected, I would provide a positive and constructive contribution to the Board.

Funny, as a member, I got a direct e-mail two days ago advising me of the AGM with a link giving full manifestos for each board nominee.

This is the easiest and most direct way I have ever got this information at the Eagles and the transperancy is chalk/cheese compared with what I have seen elsewhere.

Not a member Holden or did you not read the e-mail?

Big Phil -- We could sort this out early and base the bet on the result of the trial game in March. :D

I went to the Club last Thursday night and it is plastered all over the inside of it. It's on the website. And, if our older supporters dont have access and care enough to ring the Club for a postal vote, they are being sent the candidate information. I know, because that is what I have had to do! So, I reckon the Club has its bases covered. I reckon the Club is going along pretty well at the moment, pity you don't share that thought Holden.

Well its only fair that you get the chance to even the ledger after last year.

So agreed, the losing "Phil" of the CD v Eag trial game in March becomes a member of the other Phil's club.

I should be there on the day so can sign up straight away if things don't go to plan.
I'll also bring an Eagles membership form should you go back to back.
