Is this a bit of a strange selection by Richmond? (Wouldn't be their first). I believe he is nearly 21 with only a handful of league games and Port Maggies cut him to allow him to go to Centrals.

I would have thought there were more highly credentialled players of that age in SANFL and elsewhere in oz.

Anyone able to shed some light and join the dots for me...

From what I saw when he played the Bays he was nothing special.

Perhaps his "Pineapple Head" may have attracted attention, but personally from the Bays
I'd have Carey, Scott-Collins, Giddings and McGinty for starters ahead of him.

But good luck to the "Pineapple". Hopefully he goes OK.

Ben certainly needs to put some muscle on the bone but he has natural football ability, uses it well and is reasonably fit.

I saw 3/4 on his season with the Dogs reserves, where he was runner up B&F and there were a few AFL scouts asking about him when I was helping with the stats for the Dogs.

He probably needs to work on his disposal on his left foot, but I think he will play well at VFL level with Coburg and hopefully he gets a chance to debut in the near future.

Is a great lad to boot, so well done to Ben and good luck with your opportunity at AFL level.

Its hard to know how the AFL talent scouts think.Would I be wrong in thinking a Scotty Dutshke,Brayden Ohara,Daniel Havelberg etc would be better or at least as talented?
They are all of a similar age and all worthy of the chance for a dig at AFL level.
I would be very surprised if least two of the three mentioned do not get a call up on the rookie draft in a few weeks time.
Nason must have some ability so good luck to the lad and I hope to see him get a game for the tigers in the near future.

And that is clearly the same opinion as the 16 AFL club's scouts !!

Time will tell with Nason, granted Allmond is a great player and may still be rookied, but you have seen Nason 'a couple of times' which isn't really much to make judgement on.

He's now on an AFL list and Allmond isn't (yet) so clearly the lad has something that Richmond see (and you don't )

Haha Mr Fuller stop being so bias... get the blinkers off!!!
could easily say the same thing about kirkwood, who has been good at league level the last 2 years, played the last half of the season with pneumonia and still performed.

you cannot compare nason and allmond... completely different players, nason outside player, allmond gets in there a lot more!

nason is a quality player, has always had the potential and as far as i can remember was stiff not to play state u16s and only fell off the state radar through injury... but was still firm in the minds of recruiters

AFL recruiters are a lot more focused on outside players who use the play... becoz keeping the ball is everything!
Nason fits that model... allmond does not

I only noticed him during the qualifying final this season. Was nothing spectacular but he seemed to try and stick to his specific instructions. He has already proven the Magpies coaching staff wrong that he can play league football so now he has to do it all again over in Melbourne. But if he wants to be taken seriously then get a hair cut son and then let the football do the talking

Actually Allmond is more of an outside player than an inside player. And actually I don't think Allmond is good enough to play AFL either. I just used him as a comparison as a better player. And just because Richmond drafted him doesn't make a better player. There are plenty of jokers running around in the AFL who would be very average SANFL players. AFL scouts get it wrong as many times as they get it right. Maybe even more so. I'd bet the house that players like O'Hara or Coad would make far better players then many current AFL players

Looks like Ben got under the guard of the talent scouts on this site, but clearly noticed by the hairdo police.

He looked athletic, read the play well and was clean and classy with his disposal. He worked his way into league selection late in the season but lost his spot when Slade came back from injury. I wonder what aspect of his play the knockers on this site didn't like.

I was looking foward to him consolidating his league spot at Centrals in 2010. Taking a bigger step up to the AFL will be challenge for him, and I hope he does well.
