Mini Draft for the 2010 season

So the AFL draft was on yesterday with some exciting players coming to the two SA based AFL clubs.
These players are: John Butcher, Andrew Moore and Jasper McMillan-Pittard (power) and Daniel Talia, Jack Gunston, Sam Shaw and James Craig (crows).

Of those players James Craig is obviously aligned with North Adelaide already.

With the rookie listed players still to add to that list, who do clubs want?

Im hoping that Daniel Talia can get through to pick 4 and fall to the bloods. I think he could really compliment the bloods this year, and would also be with the Bloods for the majority of the year. He can play down back and would need a fair few injuries to get a gig with the crows.

Not sure of the exact date of the mini draft this year?

Thoughts?

Do norwood get a pick in this years Mini Draft??

If not, we would get 3 but if they do we will get 4 (south 1, port 2, norwood 3, westies 4 and so on)

Well even better ;)

I would still like the Bloods go Talia with pick 3. If he could fill a CHB or the third tall role down back for the bloods it would be really handy!

Allow to free up either Hartlett or Ferguson a bit more would just add that depth to the tall backs that we need i think!

I would think at this stage, the Panthers may go either Butcher or JMP

So at this stage Norwood misses out because of their salary cap penalty and Centrals and Sturt miss out as there are only 6 interstate players so far.

That would be right Bruce. Basically sturt and centrals will get rookie listed players and south, port and west may get another pick of a rookie listed player. I wouldn't think there would be too many more rookies to add as didn't both clubs keep some players on the rookie list?

Yes thats correct Bruce.

And players to be kept on so far are Chris Schmidt, Donnelly and Danny Meyer! Thats all IIRC.

If the Power look to go a mature aged Rookie, he could well end up at South or Port Adelaide

They can have up to six rookies, IIRC, so all clubs may get two picks, except Norwood of course 8) . I thought both clubs had kept more rookies on than that.

I heard Neil Craig mention that because of the new teams, the Crows will have the maximum number of rookies this year so I think that is another 4, but they might be 4 locals I guess and dont go into the mini draft.

Would make sense so they get first dibs at the player and not the GC that way.

Also it doesnt go to the salary cap the rookie contracts unless they are over a certain amount of $$

Well the power have definitely kept on D.Meyer, delisted two westies boys in Laurie and Martin, and promoted Thompson and Stewart.

Crows promoted Martin, kept on Schmidt and Donnelly and delisted their other 2 (cant remember them tho, or even if there was another 2).

I would assume that South would take Butcher as he will need a bit of time to develop. So they will see a bit of him. Port is tricky. Got a feeling they will go Talia leaving McMillan-Pittard to the Bloods!

Then there is young Andrew Moore aswell who was pick 9 in the draft!

I think they kept Henderson (could be wrong) but lost Moss who retired due to injury.

Might go with Gunston. Looks like he can play and is versatile.

Forgot about him. Hope Westies go with someone that will be around for a while. We seem to get smashed by the AFL teams!
