Poms to Premiers - In addressing the celebration of the club's 50th year anniversary, President Tom Zorich acknowledged the wonderful publication "Poms to Premiers" and thanked co-authors Robert Laidlaw and Robin Mulholland for their amazing contribution to the book. I must admit I was always surprised that Paul Thomas didnt play more games for a fairly ordinary Essendon side in his AFL sojourn.
- Did he just not get on with Sheedy or was Dementia already in its early stages and creeping into the Bombers game plan back then ;) ;)

Also just how good a servants have the twins been, both finishing in the top 6 in their 10th season at the Dogs when a lot of people think they are on borrowed time.
- Big Phil they are the types who deserve to be called club GREATS ;) ;)

I'm pretty sure Sansbury's 4th goal in the Grand Final pipped Sully by 1, with him finishing with 34 majors for the year.

Check out the link to Spelly's little data base of ALL goal kickers for the season, Eddie finished with 35.18 whiel Chad had 34.17 for the year.

My Goal Stats CDFC 2009 - O'Sullivan has a goal that needs to be credited to someone else OR the CDFC annual report is one out - My money is on me being wrong during the betting theme of Melb. Cup week

Ps - My first attempt at an image capture so these comments above will be out of context if the image does not paste with this here text :?

This is my first go at a screen capture - hope it works when I submit!

From the above, This is what I had for CDFC scorers 2009 - Obviously O'Sullivan has 1 too many goals - The question is, who do I credit his extra goal to?

Cheers Guys
I have found the Goal Difference towards the end of the year v Sturt > I shall investigate further (The SANFL source) is Ok but it has errors. For WWT, they had 20 players and then 22 listed in two separate rds this year. Also, they were a goal short for Glenelg towards one of the latter rounds - This was emailed to me by the GFC statistician.

Good to see discrepancies discussed. Hopefully, we will all get the same result soon.

According to the SANFL stats for RD 22 v Sturt - I should have Had Callinan with 4 goals (Not 3) and O'Sullivan 1 Goal (Not 2).

It does look as though it was me who stuffed up after-all. Thanks everyone for your input!

Thomo didn't play more games for the Bombers in the AFL because Kevin Sheedy didn't rate him...

As for the Gowan's twins G, of course their records speak for themselves, but they both continue to play good football and are therfore recognised accordingly.

Norm Russell Medalist

Postby sjt » Mon Nov 02, 2009 11:45 am

Congrats to Thommo on winning the Norm Russell again, and Scotty Dutschke runner up.

Also well done to James finishing 3rd only 3 votes behind Scotty and Chris coming in at 6th.
"Cutterman" your quote below again shows how far off the mark you were. One year you'll be right.

Re: RD10 Sturt v Centrals MATCH REVIEW

"Every dog has it's day and I think the Gowans' day is up. Only the umpires can help them now."

Not bad in a premiership side.

Thomas is Central’s top dog

LEADING FROM THE FRONT: Paul Thomas during Central's Grand Final win.

CENTRAL District skipper Paul Thomas has capped off a superb season by taking out the Bulldogs’ best and fairest award.

The 27-year-old polled 253 votes at last Saturday’s Norm Russell Medal count to win from fellow midfielders Scott Dutschke (219) and James Gowans (216).

It is the second time Thomas has won the award, adding to his victory in 2004.

``Both times have been in a premiership year which makes it even more exciting,’’ he said.

``It takes tough, consistent footy to win our best and fairest so for all the guys who finish in the top five or six it’s a real honour.’’

In contrast to his previous win, which came in the same year the courageous leader won the Magarey Medal, Thomas only polled three votes in this year’s Magarey.

He secured his win in Central’s count with a strong finish to the season, including a superb performance in the Dogs’ 38-point win over Sturt in the Grand Final.

``I had a job to do early on one of their main players (Jade Sheedy) and I managed to keep him quiet in the first quarter while getting seven touches myself.

``That set me up for a good game. I don’t think I’ve had a Grand Final where I haven’t been happy with my game yet which has been good.’’

Thomas’ victory was all the more remarkable because he missed four games with a broken finger midway through the season.

He played 19 games in total, tallying 399 possessions at an average of 21 per game. Only Chad O’Sullivan averaged more. Co-captain since 2007, Thomas is expected to step in to the role solely next season following Matthew Slade’s retirement.

``I guess it makes sense. But if the club wanted to keep co-captains and pair me with someone like Jason MacKenzie I would be more than happy to do that,’’ Thomas said.

``I think I’m ready (to lead the side on his own). I’ve matured a lot this year and have started thinking about the game more as a whole.’’

Why would Josh Francou do a testimony about Matt Slade, did he even know who he was before the night.

Of course he would know who Sladey is but I must admit I was a bit suprised to see him on the screen on the night. Perhaps they are mates off the field or the Slade family know him ?
