Feature round - What is the best line-up

I reckon that mid-season break the AFL have is a great opportunity to showcase the SANFL. Get the blockbusters on the program i.e.

Port v Norwood Friday at Norwood - 5 to 7000 to watch
Glenelg v Sturt down the bay - 7 to 9000 to watch as a Sunday game avo game
West v South/Eagles - Either way a bit of a local derby and with our new lights could get 4000?
Centrals v North at Adelaide Oval on saturday avo 5000?

If we could get 25,000 out over the weekend it would be a super achievement and doable with some strategic planning.

Is this realistic for crowds??
Too cold for night games?

West/South/Eagles is the dilemma. You have the other games right. I would go with the two higher ranked sides out of the three so next year West v Eagles!

What's Adel Oval like presently for spectators? The Bays played there twice during 2009 and the facilities were crap. I believe lack of spectator and changeroom facilities was the main reason the 2009 SANFL finals series was moved to Footy Park.

Totally agree, even though these 2 clubs are not as strong as years past, i think you would get a helluva lot of supporters from other clubs going along aswell. It would be a great spectacle.
It certainly would help port out of some trouble.

I would like to see a double header at Footypark Pt Nwd to play at night after a Bays v Sturt to get a crowd worth opening the gates for. It would not get a good atmosphere for only one game in a stadium that big

Not a bad use of the bye round and easy enough for the WAFL to tie in the SANFL to make sure both premiers have the same bye weekend at least once.

I like the idea of including a NT or WA side but not sure if the teams will be that keen for a mid season game that is not for points or prestige. Hard to imagine the bdogs sending out their big guns for that type of game when their old bodies could grab a week off.

Wouldent be all that hard to make up an annual trophy for the winner of that match which would give the club some prestige in the same vein as the Champions of Australia series!

Interesting idea this.
The main hurdle I think would be if Central or SF want to forfeit their bye to play in a potentially very physical clash. Some prize money would make the proposal a little more persuasive. How much would the gate takings be for such a game? If it was a double header I imagine half the gate should be made available as a winner takes all for the Premiers clash and the other half shared by whoever plays in the other game.
If it went ahead it would add prestige to our local comps, and a further trophy to aim for after winning the local flag. If it was played as part of a double header the fans attending for the other game would most likely have an interest one way or the other. Some would possibly support South F' in preference to seeing the Dogs win yet another piece of silverware, whereas others would have pride in the local comp' and boost the Dogs' support for that game.
I reckon the idea is a winner.
And it gives South something to do for rivalry round!

Is an interesting idea but would never happen involving the Dogs, Kris Grant has been strongly opposed to having this type of game when he has been questioned about it before. People underestimate how much the players enjoy the bye and the chance to go back home/local clubs or just spend the whole weekend with their family and mates.

Forget Footy Park entirely.........

There is absolutely nothing which could attract a crowd big enough to take away the echo and poor atmosphere an SANFL game or even two would generate. Adelaide Oval wouldn't do either due to the gaping hole on the western side.

The feature round is a great idea, but all games have to be played where the crowd is close to the action and can create it's own atmosphere.

The SANFL could do something really smart here, and have a 'series ticket' system, ie.....plan the biggest crowd pulling game for the Friday night, either Norwood/Port at Norwood or Centrals/North at Elizabeth. Your ticket for that game gets you into any or all other games on the weekend at half price. That would mean a lot of people would get the opportunity to go watch other games and not break the bank. Get the balance of the games right and you would have a lot of people going to a second game over the course of the weekend.
