The AFL fixture for 2010 is set to be released on October 30th. When can we expect the SANFL fixture for 2010 to be released ?

I wouldn't mind seeing double headers whether that be combined with an AFL game or combined with another SANFL game. If it was to be a curtain raiser to an AFL game there would have to be some good arrangements made for season ticket holders of the SANFL clubs though.

From an Eagles prospective I would like our fixture like this:

Central (2) 1 Home, 1 Away
Glenelg (2) 1 Home, 1 Away
North (3) 2 Home, 1 Away
Norwood (3) 1 Home, 2 Away
Port (3) 2 Home, 1 Away
South (2) 1 Home, 1 Away
Sturt (3) 1 Home, 2 Away
West (2) 1 Home, 1 Away

2 Games minimum to be played at Thebarton - North, Port
Central Away - Saturday (day)
Norwood Away - Friday (night), Saturday (day)

Having a double-header with an AFL game would be fantastic - you get to sit with either 20,000 or 40,000 idiots (depending whether it's a Power or Crows game), you get to pay almost 3 times as much for your ticket if you don't have a season pass, plus there's the benefits of Aami stadium such as expensive parking, not being able to sit/stand where you want, not going onto the oval during 1/4 and 3/4 time, etc.

I couldn't agree more. I can remember in 1997 Norwood had not lost a match, North and Norwood were having a great game and scores were locked together with ten minutes to go. Instead of being able to watch this exciting encounter we had the AFL crowd streaming in, standing in their seats to talk to their mate and taking away from the whole atmosphere of the game. Luckily the roosters won, if only I could have watched it like a normal league game.

As I said if it was to be a curtain raiser for an AFL match there would be a lot of logistics to work out - maybe it would work better if it was done like the U18's Eagles vs Sturt game earlier this season after the match, you should only have genuine SANFL supporters stick around and watch the game.

I do however take offence to your comment about 20,000 to 40,000 idiots though as I myself happen to be a Crows season ticket holder and I'm no idiot.

I just don't see the point of playing before or after an AFL game, I don't see how it benefits the SANFL competition at all.

Curtain raisers are bloody awful. I wanted to see Sturt v Port and couldn't get a ticket. Hung around the entrance hoping to get someone's spare and managed to get in at the start of the second quarter. We got flogged anyway.

Then there was the draw against Port before a Power game. Certainly took away from the excitement of the score line having people getting in the way not caring about the game.

Double headers suck dogs balls for support staff. Reserves at one venue league team at the other.....

Hope we never see them again in the minor round...

In theory, it sounds like a great idea, but won't work for the reasons people are suggesting.
The way of watching football seems to have changed. Even at the SANFL GF's these days, most seem to take their seats after the reserves game has finished, with longer breaks between the two games. Remember going to GF's where it would feel like there would be a huge swell of people come in at half time and then for the last 1/4 of the reserves GF.

Double Headers - NO WAY!

Port Power can find another way to increase their lack of support.
I refuse to go to an AFL game. If Westies were in a double header as a curtain raiser then I wouldnt be able to take my kids (I will only pay SANFL rates for a game of footy when the AFL is free to air), We wouldn't be able to have a kick on the park let alone find a park, buy them some food..... (without taking out a 2nd mortgage) - It would be a week at home or going to an alternative sport.

normally about late novemeber to early december.

One current rumour is that the Norwood and Glenelg CEO's are in talks with the SANFL to make it a game between their two sides as the first SANFL pre-game prior to the Crows playing at Football Park.
