Reserves Qualification Rule

I know this rant is a week or two late ...

Is there a dumber rule in the SANFL than the one for reserves qualification in the finals?

Jarrod Kellock and Lachie McGregor are ruled ineligible for the reserves grand final because they played league the week before .. never mind that for Kellock, it was his second or third league game for the year and for McGreogor his first.

In 1983, Craig Bradley missed a few games late in the season because he was on an under 19 cricket tour of England. Critically he missed round 22, which allowed him to qualify for the reserves finals series as Port's league team had missed the finals.

How many reserves games had he played that year? None.

Bradley goes on to help Port to the reserves premiership along with about 5 or 6 other Port premeirship players (from 1981)who had also qualified.

This qualification rule lacks any common sense whatsoever and MUST be changed.

Rant over.

I know what you mean, it's one rule for some players and another for the rest of them.

It's always been haphazard. What year was it when Torrens dropped a heap of league players in the last round because their ressies made the finals?

Barto - Or club dropping all the U/19 & U/17 back when the league & reserves did not make the finals?

Not Torrens but nearby

Good point

I think all clubs are guilty of that oldfella, including our own.
