Here is a tough question. Apart from Mathew Knights name a Port Adelaide Magpies coach who was not a "Port man".
I can think of none.

Some bloke called Fos Williams?

Then again he is probably THE "Port Man" in the wash up.

Matthew Knights was the first 'non Port' coach of the Magpies since Fos Williams. The results of both appointments at Port Adelaide are poles apart to say the least.

Yeah Matthew Knights went on to coach an AFL club into the finals. ;)

Fos Williams became a Port legend, but when he was appointed he was as much a 'non-Port' coach as Matthew Knights.

With an older brother already playing out at Port Adelaide, to say Fos was a "non-Port" person is a bit of a stretch. The only reason he ended at Westies was due to a 13 week navy billet stint in their zone.

Thanks for that, but 54 games for West over 4 seasons doesn't make him a "Port' man for the purposes of this thread, even if he did have a brother at Port :)

Some other bloke came from South originally. Think he did fairly well with Port in his time.

Jim Deane was appointed coach for 1950.

But South refused clear him...
