While the league Preliminary Final is set up as a blockbuster, the curtain raiser should be equally as entertaining...

At AAMI Stadium on Sunday 27th September, from 12.10pm the Bulldogs battle the Tigers to earn the right to face the Eagles in the Grand Final.

The Bays managed to hold on for a 1 point win in their semi final over the Double Blues and much like their league side, bad kicking for goal an area that needs addressing. I arrived at half time of this game and I think the Bays were on around 5 goals 11 so no doubt an area coach Michael Godden will be working on during the week. This could well be Godden's last outing for Glenelg before taking the reign at the Eagles but I would suggest the Tigers will start favourites.

Centrals are coming off a very dissapointing performance, being smashed by the Eagles by around 15 goals. I know that gastro was rife through the Dogs reserves side effecting many players, but full credit to the Eagles on the day, who were way too good and deserving of their spot in the Grand Final. Dogs coach and long time club servant Jeff Brown has done a great job this year in his senior debut and will of course be hoping to get the boys up from last weeks terrible effort.

Both sides have some very talented players with the likes of Dave Allocca, Lachy McGregor, Sean Brading, Michael Leibelt, Luke Habel, Sam Rudolph, Ryan Porter, Richard O'Grady, Nick White, Jarrod Kellock, Louis Hadden - the list goes on. The Dogs will be hoping the players who were down om form last week due to gastro will lift and get them into a Grand Final like their senior side, while Micky Godden would love to go out with another chance at a reserves Premiership at the Bays.

My heart says Central just but my head will tip Glenelg by about 5 goals, running away from the Dogs late in the game.

Yes true, but it certainly did effect the output of certain players who had been in great form prior to this game...

Full credit to the Eagles though, they were magnificent and sitting with the Centrals stats team, I know the clearance work of the opposition was sensational.

Whoever faces them in the big one, be it Central or the Bays, they will be hard to beat I would suggest.

I think it would be good for team morale for the CDFC league and reserves teams to stage a joint training session. Sharing waterbottles.

Actually, a good question kind of off topic. Do you think a cold and wet day (likely for more close in contact) would take more out of a team than a 30 degree day?

yeah it is an interesting topic, from my sporting career in football, cricket and soccer (none at an extremley high level)

I personally found that the 30 degree days were tougher mentally and i had a tendancy to wake up the next day and have slight headaches and heat stroke type symptons.

I always found the cold wet days tougher as i suffer from osteo arthritis in my lower back, the cold days i tended to find i was more likely to do soft tissue injuries, and generally woke up sorer due to the nature of sports like football and soccer being in tight closer affairs in the wet.

Actually, thinking about it, you are more likely to have dislocated fingers due to the heavy ball, too.

On a suburban ground like the Bay, the wet sucks. Footy Pk with it's playing surface, a bit of rain does wonders, and it needed a good soaking as the surface was a tad hard anyway......

yeah i agree, i didn't take into account the football park situation, but i still think the amount of tackles and hardness of a game in the wet takes it toll out of players.

Would Bays fans agree it is fair to say we are likely to be seeing Justin McConnell running around in this game ?

I think on paper Glenelg will be too strong but the Doggies have some very good talent, which will make for a great game hopefully...

Glenelg may be able to call on Plant & Duldig. Both blokes pretty handy ins if they're fit.

Macca may drop down for Lachie McGregor IMO, who had a cracker v Sturt, and his form has been pretty good.
